**_ Position Purpose:_**
- Safeguarding Transnet’s interests and reputation by protecting the organisation from undue liability through the provision of

professional and expert legal services and advice on all aspects of labour, employment law and pensions law.
- Leading and guiding the development, implementation and management of legal strategies that support the provision of

effective and sound labour and pension law across Transnet.
- Provide the relevant assurance in respect of labour law and pension law activities within Transnet.
- Managing the effective implementation of the approved strategic business plan, goals and objectives to ensure the

achievement of overall key labour law, employment law and pensions law outputs across Transnet.
- Supporting the General Manager in providing strategic leadership and guidance in the delivery and management of labour

law across Transnet in terms of the applicable statutes and rules of the courts
**_ Position outputs:_**
- Provide leadership and advice in the provision of labour, employment and pensions law services to Transnet business,

operating divisions and subsidiaries in order to minimise legal and compliance risks and provide professional legal counsel as

appropriate.
- Provide assurance to the Transnet Executives that the Company’s labour and pension law is properly managed and in

compliance with relevant legislation.
- Provide legal guidance and advice as and when required to Transnet Executives on labour, employment and pensions law

related matters.
- Identify, select and retain external counsel as required to provide opinions and advice based on Transnet’s requirements,

and oversee legal services provided where required.
- Ensure mitigation of legal risk exposure in all pension law litigation through expert and professional legal knowledge and

advice on pension law.
- Ensure organisational compliance with prevailing statutory and regulatory requirements of all labour and pensions laws and

oversee the implementation of changes in legislation and regulation within the organisation.
- Provide the Transnet Exco and the Transnet Board with legal advice on the Transnet pension funds
- Analyse and interpret CCMA, Transnet bargaining counsel and Labour Court judgements and awards to position Transnet

appropriately and provide advice and assistance to the operating division people managers and employee relations
- practitioners on these awards and court judgements.
- Engage with relevant stakeholders, both external and internal when required
- Ensure interface and sharing of lessons learnt with people management and employee relations.
- Ensure that work is secured and delivered in accordance with the defined ethics and values of the Group.
- Promote collaboration between the Labour Law Department and the People Management/Employee Relations Departments

across Transnet to ensure consistency and effective management of labour law and pension law issues across the
- organisation.
- Provide legal opinions relating to employment, law and pension law.

**_Qualifications & Experience:_**
- LLB degree with minimum 10 to 12 years’ experience in legal, labour law and pensions law in a large organisation with

complex operations, of which at least 3 - 5 years in a position providing labour law advice
- Admission as an Attorney of the High Court or an Advocate at the Bar
- Professional with advanced knowledge of labour law and pensions law
- Experience in advising on major labour law issues for large and complex organisations
- Requirement of trust and honesty in the handling of finances as per the National Credit Act Amendment 19

Knowledge
- Deep knowledge of legislation and regulation including the Labour Relations Act, the Basic Conditions of Employment Act

and the Pensions act.
- Knowledge and understanding of Transnet’s mandate and alignment thereof with business strategy
