Storage Specialist

The Storage Specialist is responsible for the management and support of Storage Array Network (SAN) technology concepts and how it fits in a multi-tenant service provider environment. Perform Storage system tuning including monitoring, troubleshooting and optimising performance and proactively oversees resolution of Storage service disruptions and implementation of preventative measures.

**Role responsibilities and key focus areas**:

- Responsible for supporting SAN storage arrays, which includes EMC Clariion and VNX platforms
- Storage provisioning, management and reporting
- Troubleshooting and escalation of incidents with EMC global support services
- Understanding of IP/Telecommunications/ICT Industry
- Understanding of Hosted solutions, virtual and physical
- Understanding of Networking
- Understanding of Security technologies
- Total overall technical and operational ownership of the storage infrastructure
- Responsible for the management and support of Storage Array Network (SAN) technology concepts and how it fits in a multi-tenant service provider environment
- Plan, schedule and perform proactive maintenance, including hardware and software upgrades and patch installations
- Perform Storage system tuning including monitoring, troubleshooting and optimising performance
- Proactively oversees resolution of Storage service disruptions and implementation of preventative measures
- Analyses and solves complex problems of network, operating system, hardware and software components
- Analyses impact of SAN systems and components for the technical infrastructure and communicates the results with the responsible technical specialists in order to reach the appropriate and effective use of the various technologies
- Incident Management:

- Receive call and confirm if the issue is a known or unknown problem
- Confirm service impact caused by the issue
- Troubleshooting and problem determination of Storage systems (i.e. EMC Clariion or VNX SAN arrays) using Cisco’s DCNM and Performance Analyser and EMC Unisphere toolsets
- Manage hardware and software calls with the appropriate vendor (i.e. Cisco or EMC)
- Change Management, Implement storage system changes:

- LUN creation and expansion based on requirements
- SAN fabric zoning
- Firmware updates
- Reporting of capacity and performance of Storage systems using various EMC and Cisco toolsets
- Responsible for the configuration and management of Cisco fabric switches
- Troubleshooting and escalation of incidents with EMC global support services
- Act as an escalation point to resolve complex issues
- Follow runbook procedures to determine overall infrastructure system health and to effectively manage and troubleshoot anticipated scenarios
- Total overall technical and operational ownership of the hosting infrastructure

**Technical Skills and experience**:

- At least 3 - 5 years hands-on storage experience of which 3 years must be within a complex hosting environment.
- Exposure to Ticketing, monitoring, configuration management tools.
- Matric/Grade 12 (Essential)
- EMC storage certification (Essential)
- Any other storage related certifications (Advantageous)
