- Manage shipping office staff
- Manage all import activities for the group
- Negotiate the best freight rates from freight forwarders
- Hold staff meetings on a weekly basis
- Track and manage all imports for the group
- Book Forex for payments of contracts as per company policy
- Prepare budgets
- Prepare management reports for the Supply Chain Executive
- Ensure all shipments are invoiced and delivered in time as per SOP
- Ensure effective communication to branches regarding container deliveries
- Manage all department expenses
- Conduct training as/when required
- Initiate cost saving initiatives
- Negotiate trading terms with suppliers
- Investigate the specialized and technical requirements in the department
- Administrate and supervise activities of the staff in the Import office
- Strategize, plan and enforcing the import activities and ensure adherence by all
- Ensure shipments arrive on time
- Maintain a good understanding of global market and trends
- Review foreign supplier invoices for correct product, quantity and price
- Conduct quarterly performance management of shipping staff
- Prepare monthly reports for Supply Chain Executive providing insight into shipping spend (airfreight and sea), trend analysis, etc. and identify potential areas for savings
- Ensure all Import permits are in place
- Provide weekly feedback to the Finance Manager on outstanding shipments payments and exposure of cash flow in the shipping department
- Monthly Goods-in-Transit recon to be done for Management reporting
- Ensure no storage charges are incurred
- Ensure forwarders have sufficient space
- Confirm cargo readiness with supplier

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- Minimum Grade 12
- A tertiary qualification in a related field i.e., BBA Logistics, Supply Chain Management would be an advantage
- Knowledge of finance
- 3-4 years’ experience in people management
- Good administrative skills
- Good problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Flexible with regard to work, overtime and structural changes
- Ability to coach employees to work more efficiently
