**_ Position Purpose:_**

To monitor and facilitate efficient and safe traffic movement through effective and accurate operation of the Vessel Traffic

System ( traffic separation scheme, TSS and equipment) in accordance with the Marine Traffic Regulating Act, IALA

Guideline in the prevention of collisions, groundings, maritime casualties and ensuing environmental damage.

**_ Position outputs:_**
- Effective planning and efficient allocation of resources to meet specific requirements e.g. tugs, pilots, etc.
- Accurate recording of service times on information system and retrieval of operational information. Accurate approvals for,

Berth Planning, extra-ordinary weather distribution of information, etc.
- Liaison with terminal companies w.r.t. berth, bollards, scheduling,
- Continuous assessment of plan and task completion
- Initiation of Rescue (NSRI) and Emergency Call-outs e.g. fire, pollution, safety,
- Identification of impact of incidents on operations
- Inform SAMSA of all issues related to safety of vessels and effects on port operations
- Maintenance, Archiving and Retrieval of operations data
- Allocate resources for efficient operations (pilots, tugs, launches, Helicopter -if in use)
- Continuously monitor (radar + radio) to identify vessels, assimilate data, evaluate data and develop a ‘traffic image’.
- Active participation in training of other team members
- Evaluate vessels’ tracks within VTS Zone against desired norms.
- Communicate relevant, accurate and precise information regarding the ‘traffic image’ to vessels within VTS Zone &
approaches to the port
- Communicate with all relevant parties regarding vessels’ status w.r.t. to the operational plan
- Communicate clearance to vessel to enter the port, or not. (ISPS code)
- Gathering and disseminating relevant information
- Answering and screening of telephone calls from port users both internal and external.

( e.g. ETAs, ETDs, Shiftings, Berths, etc).
- Provision of telephonic assistance in Marine Resource requirements

**_Qualifications & Experience:_**:

- Vessel Traffic Control Assistant with 1-3 years experience at VTS
- Skipper Port Operations (Theory) - at SAMSA accredited institution
- VTS Operators Certificate accredited by SAMSA
- Radio Operators Licence
- Electronic Navigation System(ENS)
