Position Overview

To manage the Quality Assurance and Site Food Safety activity at the McCormick South Africa Plant. Accountability for the Quality Assurance Budget of approx. R9.5 million per year of which approx. R3.8 million is an outside spend with external laboratories.
To pro-actively lead the Quality & Food Safety Management Program’s in the South Africa Plant thus ensuring compliance with Company, Regulatory, Third party and Customer standards, whilst achieving Quality objectives and KPI targets.

The Site Quality Manager is required to providing leadership to the QA Team and being a point of escalation for routine queries and incidents.

The role is reponsible for providing direct leadership and development of the Site Quality Team at McCormick South Africa. The plant Quality Manager is required to ensure every individual receives feedback about their performance through appraisal and adequate training and development through particpation in their own Personal Development plan.

The role is to pro-actively lead initiatives to continuously improve the Quality performance within the plant. This is achieved by identifying and implementing key performance indicators for Quality and Food Safety and leading intiatives to improve the performance. This will result in a Quality Programme that provides support and leadership to all internal and external customers in support of McCormick’s business objectives.

To play an active and influential role in the Quality community for McCormick EMEA. To share Quality and Food Safety initiatives, Quality Best Practice and KPI’s with Quality and Technical professionals from other plants in the EMEA region.

To play a pro-active role and providing leadership on Quality and Food Safety issues in addition to supporting other operational activities that are undertaken within the plant to ensure Operational and quality goals, KPI’s are achieved.

Drive a quality and food safety culture within the South African plant.

Key Responsibilities
To manage the Performance and Development of the Site Quality Team at McCormick South Africa To Lead the incident management process and provide training and coaching at site level To be accountable for all Quality and Food Safety programs within the plant To be responsible for the implementation of the EMEA, regulatory, Third party and Customer standards in the plant To play an active role as a member of the Site’s Operations Leadership Team. To provide leadership on Quality and Food Safety issues in addition to supporting Operational activites undertaken within the plant. Manage the plant Quality Budget, implementing appropriate Financial Controls to ensure that spend is appropriately managed and cost saving initiatives identified and initiated where appropriate. To play an active and influential role in the Quality community for McCormick EMEA

**Required Qualifications**: Food Based Degree (or consider work experience gained) HACCP Level 3, internal audit / inspection qualifications Similar leadership role in a food manufacturing environment working within Quality Management Systems. Practical knowledge and experience of third party, Flavour solution Customer audit standards and requirements. Ability to work autonomously, without direct supervision. Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact with multiple levels within the business as well as with external contactors and Customers. Ability to provide supervision, conduct competency assessments and deliver training Working knowledge of SAP would be advantageous. PC literate. Attention to detail. Ability to interpret analytical and microbiological data. Willing and capable to learn new skills. Must be willing to work in a manufacturing environment. Ability to effectively conduct root cause analysis and develop corrective and preventative action plans. Ability to work strategically and with a pragmatic, operational mindset.
