**PURPOSE OF THE JOB**:
The Manager: SHE is accountable for providing an integrated SHE Management service to ensure identification and management of SHE risks within the company. Identification and management of sustainability initiatives that enhances business performance and supports the long-term business interests of the company. To implement and manage safety, health, & environmental philosophy, processes and systems to ensure responsible business conduct by complying with all applicable legal and other requirements.
**KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS**:
**Legal**:
- Legislation review & interpretation.
- Ensure the business has its Permits, licenses & is compliant.
- Ensure audits are conducted and corrective actions are addressed.
- Compile SHE standards for the organization
- Ensure that all legal appointments are in place & up to date
- Manage all internal and external legal compliance audits
**Safety**:
- Ensure that the ISO SHE Management System (ISO 14001 & ISO 45001) is maintained.
- Management of the Corrective Action Database (Follow
- up system)
- Ensure an effective incident investigation management system is in place.
- Ensure compliance to SANS 3000-1 Safe Railway Operations and Risk Control Strategy.
- Ensure compliance to Radiation Safety Code of Conduct as per DoH and legal requirements.
- Coordinate the SHE committee for the site
- Ensure SHE mandatory training is conducted.
- Improvement of Safety standards for the site
**Health**:
- Ensure an effective occupational health service is operational
- Ensure an effective primary health care service is operational
- Ensure that the Clinic adheres to all legal requirements
- External surveys conducted by an approved inspection authority
**Environment**:
- Ensure adherence to the relevant site permit requirements
- Ensure a Waste Management Plan is in place
- Ensure conservation management plan is in place and updated
**People**:
- Performance management of reportees
- Manage timekeeping and leave of reportees
- Member of Safety Committee & commissioning of facilities and processes
**Financial Management**:
- Manage OPEX budget
- Plan for CAPEX as required.
- Ensure all transactions are correctly captured and released
**POST REQUIREMENTS**:
- Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental/ Safety Management and/or relevant equivalent qualification. (safety management preferred)
- Training and demonstrated experience and knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001 systems and standards, implementation and auditing.
- Incident investigation course
- Hazard identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA)
- Experience: 5-8 years’ relevant experience in the management of safety, health, quality and environmental management within a medium to large organization.
- 2-3 years of experience in staff management, performance management and leadership.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of all relevant statutory acts and regulations
- An in-depth understanding and working knowledge of safety, health and environmental legislation, in particular the OHS Act, National Environmental Management Act and related Regulations.
- Experience & knowledge of Explosives Regulations would be advantageous
- Experience in the development and roll out of behaviour-based safety programs
- General knowledge of Occupational health and Hygiene requirements
- Competencies: The ability to liaise and communicate with various internal and external stakeholders
- Good Planning, integration and resources management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including meeting facilitation and presentation.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to effectively collaborate with multiple disciplines both internally and externally
- Ability to operate and communicate on all levels and within the corporate environment
- Networking skills and an established network within the professional SHE management field as well as other authorities
- Fundamental computer literacy: MS Office packages (Excel, Word, Outlook), online collaboration tools e.g. Webex Meetings
- Clear Security Screening record
- Medical fit to work in a specific environment.
- Code 8 Drivers Licence
