**Senior Buyer**

SA’s most loved homeware retailer has a great opportunity for a passionate Senior Buyer to join the division’s wider merchandise team.

**your key responsibilities**

The role of the Senior Buyer is to lead and roll-up the buying function of a specific merchandise team to maintain buying disciplines. You will negotiate with suppliers on aspects of price, fabrication, and delivery dates. This role requires an individual with a strategic eye for product to develop a product strategy for your department. You will also collaborate with other functional areas such as trend and design, quality, resourcing, marketing, visual merchandising, and supply whilst remaining aligned with the overall business key strategic objectives.

In this role partnership is imperative for success as you and your counterpart Senior Planner will be required to work collaboratively to provide direction to your team.

A key element of this role is to provide coaching to the associates in your team, ensuring performance standards are met and that associates are developed to drive our philosophy of “home grown talent”.

**key requirements**
- Relevant degree or diploma (Interior/ Fashion Design, Retail Business Management, Textile, Consumer Science)
- 5 - 7 years’ merchandise buying experience in retail with a proven track record (homeware experience is advantageous)
- At least 2 years’ experience as a team leader/ manager
- Proficient in MS Office
- Textile & fabrication knowledge
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in supplier negotiation and understanding of costing models
- Knowledge of the homeware industry, competitors, and products
- International travel to factories or trade fairs would be advantageous
- Ability to coordinate, prioritize, manage critical paths and take ownership
- Experience with pattern and design (advantageous)
- Driver’s license (advantageous)
