We are seeking an **Innovation Specialist** who will drive the fundamental development of SandLix, a transformational heap leaching technology, patented by Anglo American, that unlocks copper recovery from primary copper ores at low intensity and inherently more sustainably. In this exciting role, you will be responsible for technical oversight of ongoing laboratory and pilot scale development efforts, operational demonstrations and input into engineering studies for commercial Implementations.

SandLix is currently progressing through continued development work and scale-up from laboratory work to operational-scale demonstrations, and commercialisation studies for new and existing assets with the potential to generate substantial, lasting sustainability benefits for the company.

**Core Responsibilities (amongst others)**:

- Deliver a consistent and outstanding role model in relation to safety practices with a deep understanding and commitment to the performance of safety.
- Provide input into the continued development of SandLix through experimentation, operational tests and trials, and working with a wide range of suppliers including OEMs, consultants, academics and technology providers.
- Manage or assist in the management of, contracts with consultants involved in studies with the IDM process; liaising closely with colleagues in the Projects function to ensure smooth transition of projects through the AA governance process.
- Manage laboratory vendors through all aspects of ongoing test work (setup, preparation, operation and data analysis)
- Input into techno-economic modelling of the technology; particularly in the comparison of performance with existing or other emerging technologies. Contribute to the understanding of the intangible value that alternative tailings disposal or copper processing delivers to the benefit of all stakeholders.

**Qualifications**
- An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours degree or equivalent) in a relevant (preferably Chemical / Mechanical Engineering) technical discipline
- Knowledge and experience in process design, data management, analysis and reporting activities.
- One or more of the following specific areas of technical knowledge would be very beneficial:

- Heap leaching or hydrometallurgical experience
- Knowledge and experience in heap leach design and/or operation; understanding the challenges behind commercial and laboratory heap leaching is desirable.
- Able to work and contribute effectively across technical heap leaching concepts (chemical and physical) as well as provide appropriate input to the practical construction/execution workstreams.
- Geotechnical / hydrogeological understanding related to tailings or heap leach design and operation
