Fabrication Shift Manager

As a Shift Manager, you will have a crucial role in overseeing the operations during your shift. Your responsibilities include managing the production schedule, setting and monitoring hourly targets, ensuring product quality and counts, quality sign off, and maintaining housekeeping standards. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing staff on your shift, focusing on health and safety, housekeeping, and adherence to ISO standards.
As a Shift Manager, your role encompasses the following key responsibilities:
**Managing Shift Operations**
- Adhere to the production schedule set by the Production Manager, and proactively respond to any changes during the shift.
- Oversee the CNC, Bending, Prep, Welding and Epoxy Departments.
- Establish and enforce hourly production targets to ensure efficient output.
- Maintain a relentless focus on achieving the highest product quality standards.
- Ensure production counts meet designated quotas and allow for contingencies.
- Address all labour / material / facility concerns.
- Monitor employee attendance and timekeeping.
- Address all discipline issues.
- Open / lock up factory when required.
- Ensure Freeflow is kept up to date by the production team.
- Upkeep of Edma system.
- Ensure waste / offcuts are kept to a minimum.
- Address / oversee all rejects / rework.
- Ensure health and Safety protocols are adhered to.
**Ensuring ISO Standards Compliance**
- Ensure strict adherence to health and safety standards at all times to maintain a secure work environment.
- Ensure that all staff members receive adequate training on relevant machines and processes, and that the relevant documents have been completed.
- Ensure that employees are completing the quality process for each machine to ensure product quality consistency.
- Report all safety concerns
- Uphold housekeeping standards throughout the factory.
**General Management**
- Efficiently manage the shift, ensuring smooth operations and addressing any issues promptly.
- Complete shift records and promptly report any non-conformance.
- Foster a culture of teamwork among shift employees.
- Perform performance management responsibilities for shift staff.
- Maintain sound industrial relations and morale of employees.
**Ad hoc Responsibilities**
- Willingness to respond to any reasonable requests from the Manager, ensuring a flexible and collaborative approach to tasks.
**Minimum experience/requirements & Skills**
- A minimum of 5-7 years of managerial experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Proficiency in proactive problem-solving and the ability to think creatively to resolve challenges.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
- Prior experience in management and oversight roles.
- Commitment to high professional ethical standards and professionalism.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Self-motivation and the capability to motivate and inspire others.
- Maintains a calm and professional demeanor, even in demanding situations.
- Effective delegation of responsibilities to optimize team performance.
- Demonstrated ability to find solutions quickly when faced with challenges.
- A commitment to staying at the forefront of technology and innovation.
**Minimum qualifications**:
- A minimum of a Grade 12 certificate or its equivalent.
- Preferably, hold a relevant tertiary or trade test qualification.
- Possess a qualification in management.
