Identifying new growth markets/opportunities
*
The development of business unit strategy for the next 2-3 years by providing a view on potential improvements for products or services and an assessment of the existing situation and anticipated changes in the external environment.
*
Manage departmental budgets including signing off invoices and quotes within mandate. Escalate out of budgets items to the Managing Executive for approval.
*
Build and deliver customer strategy and a clear customer value proposition (CVP) through effective customer insights and research.
*
Ensuring establishment, enablement, and appropriate relationship management for Grindrod Banks’s key strategic partners in building and growing the SME book.
*
Maintain close observance of the external market to understand future challenges and amongst other anticipate the effect of regulatory changes and identify and provide input and recommendations to develop value propositions and services to take advantage of or mitigate against those changes.
*
Develop implementation scenarios, business cases and roadmap for business transformation and operating model changes in conjunction with business and functional areas including current initiatives which include areas such as:
*
Business Transactional Account
*
Capital raising initiatives
*
New product offerings

*
Ensure and maintain appropriate governance frameworks.
*
Maintenance of divisional risk registers - registers to be handed to risk at least 6 weeks prior to the risk committee meetings
*
Minimize repeat unsatisfactory IA reports (i.e., when an area received overall unsatisfactory rating in consecutive audits) to be assessed by Internal Audit.
*
Ensure inclusiveness of the banks independent risk function in key decision-making - this will be assessed by Risk deparment.
*
Manage number or percentage of recurring significant audit issues (i.e., where findings raised in prior audits come up again in subsequent audits, particularly when such findings were confirmed to have been resolved) to be assessed by audit.
*
Effective management of service providers - have contracts in place and manage and review service provider performance.
*
RDARR - owners or stewards of risk data are to ensure that controls over the data are functioning as intended - and the data complies with the data quality requirements
*
Being actively involved in facilitation of Business Resilience testing.
*
Represent Grindrod Bank’s interest at certain key industry bodies and forums
*
Provide clear direction on strategic goals, translating and prioritising them into business and performance measures.
*
Lead, inspire and coach a team of high calibre professionals, creating succession to key roles and enhancing the bank’s management capability.
*
Work with managers in the team to achieve excellent business results through continuous people development and mentoring activities.
*
Ensure the development of high-performing teams through embedding formal performance management principles.
*
Determine and analyse training and development needs for managers and ensure they do the same for their teams.
*
Ensure that identified training is budgeted for and executed.
*
Establish and maintain a succession plan for the SME banking team in the area using the formal Talent Management process for identified talent and an information process for remaining roles.
*
Address poor performance of any team member through the formal Performance Improvement process and ensure that continued poor performance is appropriately dealt with.
*
Review Performance Improvement reports to determine effectiveness of interventions.
*
Build the people capability and provide mentorship to specific key talent identified in succession plan.
*
Build strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
*
Contribute to the strategic design and deployment of Grindrod Bank's SME strategy and target operating model, aligning with business objectives in the short, medium & long term.

Drive new product development and management - CVP Development skills
*
Contribute towards securing capital to enable business growth
