**The main purpose of the job**

To manage, monitor and report on compliance of operations in terms of Food Safety, Occupational Health,
Safety and Environmental Management for a designated sector, as per the established policy framework. This role reports into the HSE Director.

**Education and experience required**
- Bachelor in Environmental Science or Occupational Health & Safety (NQF Level 6) minimum
- Certification in Occupational Health & Safety certification (ideal)
- 5 to 8 years’ experience in Occupational Health and Safety, 3 years of which is at a
management level.
- Member of the South African Association of Occupational Safety & Health would be advantageous.

**Knowledge Skills and Competencies required**
- Sound knowledge of all relevant legislation i.e. Occupational Health & Safety Act, Food Stuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act, National Environmental Waste Management Act.
- Financial Management and Project Management Skills.
- Sound internal/external auditing Skills.
- Proven Knowledge of HACCP, ISO 22000, ISO 45001 etc.
- Sound knowledge of SANS and SABS standards.

**Key areas of responsibilities**:

- Contribute towards the development and implementation of the annual HSE strategic plan.
- Contribute towards the development and review of HSE policies and procedures and monitor the implementation therein.
- Maintain the HSE Management Systems in line with regulations and industry standards, and provide feedback to the Director on system development.
- Manage a team of HSE Coordinators who in turn will work closely with the Regional Managers and General Managers supporting their individual business to achieve HSE compliance.
- Maintain the Legal Appointments Register and ensure compliance and review of the37.2 agreements in collaboration with Legal and Operations and Sales teams.
- Implement the systems, procedures and generate reports to support a national audit program that verifies operational compliance to the company HSE policies and procedures.
- Manage and monitor the systems and procedures for the investigations, including identification of any non-conformance and reporting on findings with corrective recommendations, of all incidents across the business.
- Develop, implement and maintain the supplier quality assurance and vendor vetting programs, and engage with the procurement team on supplier quality assurance issues.
- Contribute towards and implement an HSE Communication strategy that provides meaningful content to inform, educate and raise awareness on HSE related matters within the specified sector.
- Train stakeholders and maintain the training matrix that details the legal compliance training requirements for all business sectors/divisions.
- Provide input into the divisional annual budget in accordance with financial policy and procedures, in collaboration Director:HSE.
- Lead and motivate people, conduct performance reviews, recruitment, talent and succession management, reward and employee relations processes.
