**Job Description** JOB PURPOSE**

The purpose of the role is to ensure that the organisation compliances with all applicable safety, health, and environmental regulations. The Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) Specialist shall develop, implement, and maintain effective strategies to support a safe and healthy work environment.

**Qualification and Experience** KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE**
- 5 - 7 years’ relevant experience in the field, preferably in a corporate environment.
- Extensive knowledge in health and safety management Practice and/or environmental management practice
- Formulation and implementation of SHE Strategies and related concepts.
- Previous experience with Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) is essential.
- Previous experience having worked as a SHE Specialist or related role within a corporate environment is essential for this role.
- Experience in root cause analysis techniques or incident cause analysis methods is essential.
- Ability to conduct SHE Audits
- Experience in ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management System and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System would be an advantage.
- Knowledge and experience of Baseline Risk Assessment and HIRA would be an advantage.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, preferably in an environmental management practice and/or engineering field, augmented by certificates for further development courses in environmental management practice.
- A SAMTRAC or NEBOSH qualification will be an added advantage.
- An ISO 14001 and 45001 Implementation certificate will be an added advantage.

**Roles and Responsibilities** MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Internal / Operational Processes**

**Compliance and Operations**
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety, health and environmental policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular safety, health and environmental audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and risks.
- Develop and implement training programs via the Community of Practice (CoP) platform to educate employees on safety, health, and environmental issues.
- Document and maintain a training and skills matrix for all safety, health, and environmental related training, including safety induction programs for new employees.
- Develop and implement an overall medium to long term SHE Strategy, Targets and Risks register.
- Provide technical expertise, strategic leadership, and support on various facilities regulatory compliance matters in relation to risk, safety, health, and environmental issues.
- Contribute to achieving reduced impact on the receiving environment through pollution control, waste, conversation of flora and fauna and ensure removal of hazardous.
- Monitor contractors in respect to SHE obligations.
- Coordinate, and record the proceedings of various safety, health, environmental and emergency team related meetings on a regular basis.
- Ensure that safety-related documentation and records are kept up-to-date and comply with legal and company requirements.
- Monitor and evaluate safety performance, including global and local trends, and report on safety-related issues to management to achieve continuous improvement of performance.
- Develop and create SHE and Emergency Evacuation awareness and ensure compliance with all aspects of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 as and where it applies to the business operations.
- Monitor and report SHE performance and trends relating to leading and lagging indicators.
- Measure and report such to achieve continuous improvement of performance.

**Incident management**
- Reduce number of work related SHE incidents and the severity of incidents
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near-misses and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Record reported SHE incidents.
- Compile incident investigation reports, as per RDM reporting standards.

**Reporting and Sustainability**
- Monitor and report SHE performance and trends relating to leading and lagging indicators.
- Remain abreast of developments in SHE -scope and practices locally and -internationally (e.g., UNEPFI; Global Compact; Equator Principles; ILO Code of Practice; ISO 14001 ISO 45001 etc).
- Ensure that the IDC’s Safety, Health and Environmental policies, standards and procedures remain aligned with current legislation and best practices locally and internationally.
- Provide support and input into IDC’s Annual Integrated Report.

**Customer Focus & Stakeholder Management**
- Effectively interact with different SBUs and departments to fulfil the -mandate requirements.
- Liaise with relevant authorities and stakeholders to support a safe and healthy work environment.
- Manage and enhance the levels of service and communication to ensure the provision of client service excellence.
