Family Nanny and Housekeeper

**1. Purpose of the role**

To provide full time, hands-on care for infant twins and general support for an eleven-year-old child, while taking responsibility for cleaning and maintaining a three bedroom, two-bathroom family home.

The person must take full daily responsibility for the twins when the parents are at work and ensure that the home is clean, tidy and well organised.

**2. Key responsibilities**

**2.1 Childcare for the twins**
- Take full responsibility for the daily care of the twins during working hours
- Prepare and give bottles and meals according to the parents’ instructions
- Change nappies and keep the babies clean and comfortable
- Manage nap times and follow agreed sleep and feeding routines
- Provide age-appropriate stimulation such as talking, singing, reading and play
- Ensure a safe environment at all times in the house and garden
- Keep a basic daily record of feeds, nappies, naps and any concerns
- Inform the parents immediately of any health, safety or behavioural concerns
- Be at home when the child arrives from school, where required
- Provide a light snack after school if agreed with the parents
- Remind and encourage the child to complete homework and school tasks
- Maintain basic order and cleanliness in the child’s bedroom and study area
- Supervise the child in a respectful and supportive manner

**2.3 Housekeeping and cleaning**

Responsible for cleaning and maintaining a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home, including:

- Daily cleaning of kitchen, lounge and living areas
- Cleaning and disinfecting bathrooms, toilets and showers
- Sweeping, mopping and vacuuming all floors
- Dusting furniture, windowsills and surfaces
- Making beds and changing bedding as agreed with the parents
- Washing, hanging and ironing family laundry, with special care for baby clothing and linen
- Keeping cupboards and wardrobes neat and organised
- Taking out rubbish, cleaning bins and managing basic recycling where applicable
- Keeping all areas of the home neat, hygienic and presentable

**2.4 General duties**
- Assist with simple meal preparation for the children if requested
- Clean and pack away all child-related items, such as bottles, toys, prams and high chairs
- Follow household routines and instructions from the parents
- Respect the family’s privacy and maintain confidentiality at all times
- Report any damage, maintenance issues or safety risks to the parents promptly

**3. Minimum requirements**
- Proven experience as a nanny and cleaner in a family home
- Contactable references from previous employers
- Good spoken communication in English. A local African language is an advantage
- Experience with babies. Experience with twins is a strong advantage
- Physically fit and able to lift babies, carry laundry and perform daily cleaning work
- South African ID or valid work permit
- No criminal record. Consent to background and reference checks

- Very neat, tidy and organised
- Able to work independently and show initiative
- Calm under pressure and able to manage more than one task at the same time
- Respectful of the family’s home, culture, boundaries and parenting style

**5. Working hours**
- Monday to Friday
- Exact hours to be agreed, for example 07h00 to 17h00 possibly stay at the house
- Occasional overtime or Saturday work by prior agreement

**6. Remuneration**
- Monthly salary based on experience and references
- Any transport contribution or additional benefits will be discussed during the interview
