- Legal services and advice in relation to corporate and commercial legal matters, as well as regulatory advisory, with a focus on privacy, data and technology law;
- To assist and support a senior member of the Group Legal team in certain areas of responsibility;
- To manage legal projects, including the deployment of legal technology; and
- To participate in the group’s other governance structures relating to privacy, technology and information governance.

**experience and qualifications**:

- Minimum Qualification: Admitted attorney in the High Court of South Africa.
- Experience: Three to five years' post articles commercial litigation, alternatively commercial and corporate law experience (or both) in legal practice or as corporate counsel.
- Advantageous to have experience in financial services industry.
- A strong interest in privacy, data and technology law and preparedness to upskill if required;
- Proficiency and interest in the use and deployment of legal technology is required;
- Excellent drafting skills;
- Ability to do in depth research and provide sound legal advice;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work on Microsoft Office, SharePoint;
- Ability to work on your own without intensive secretarial assistance;
- A bility to manage your own legal practice effectively;
- Ability to take initiative, proactively assist stakeholders on legal matters and upskill where required;
- Ability to collaborate and lead; and
- Ability to communicate with senior and executive management.**additional requirements**:

**responsibilities**:

- Provide professional legal advice to stakeholders (including opinions and guidance) on various legal and regulatory aspects impacting the FirstRand Group;
- Provide professional legal service in the form of drafting, vetting and advising on contracts and commercial agreements;
- Assist in the oversight of certain litigation matters that are elevated to FirstRand level, so as to minimise financial and reputational risk;
- Undertake general legal project work within Group Legal services and specifically with the deployment of emerging legal technology;
- Formulate, maintain and review legal frameworks, policies and guidelines, as applicable and relevant;
- Advise and provide commentary in respect of emerging legislation in relation to privacy, data and financial technology;
- Provide input to the governance process in relation to specific areas of legal risk (primarily relating to privacy, data, financial technology, information governance and IT risk) and present on such topics, when required;
- Engage and collaborate with Legal, Risk and Compliance departments across FirstRand Group to ensure adherence to relevant FirstRand Group policies and standards and address legal matters impacting FirstRand Group;
- Maintain own professional development;
- Maintain legal practice efficiency through service excellence;
- Research and implement best practice;
- Keep abreast of legislative developments in specified areas and distribute up-to-date legal resources to stakeholders; and
- To maintain excellent relationships with internal clients, colleagues and external stakeholders.
