Inspections help identify potential issues before they escalate into major problems, improving safety, reducing repair costs and extending the vehicle lifespan. They also ensure that the vehicle meets legal standards for safety and emissions.
2.A Vehicle Inspector ensures vehicles meet safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. They conduct thorough examinations, assess mechanical components, and document findings, often for insurance, resale, or legal compliance. Responsibilities include visual inspections, mechanical tests, diagnostic checks, and verifying documentation. They also identify and report any issues or defects that may affect vehicle safety or compliance
- **Inspecting vehicles**:
- This includes cars, trucks, motorcycles, and other motor vehicles.
- Shunting
- Caboose as required
- **Verifying compliance**:
- Ensuring vehicles meet safety and emissions standards, as well as other regulatory requirements.
- **Mechanical and visual inspections**:
- Examining components like brakes, tires, lights, emissions systems, and other mechanical parts.
- **Diagnostic testing**:
- Using specialized equipment to identify issues with vehicle systems and components.
- **Documentation and reporting**:
- Recording findings, taking photos, and preparing reports for various stakeholders.
- **Identifying defects**:
- Reporting any issues or damage that may compromise vehicle safety or compliance.
- **Recommending repairs**:
- Suggesting necessary repairs or adjustments to bring vehicles up to standard.
- **Ensuring proper documentation**:
- Checking for valid insurance, proper registration, and other necessary paperwork.
- **Following safety protocols**:
- Adhering to safety guidelines and procedures during inspections.

3. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Strong knowledge of vehicle systems and components: Understanding how different parts of a vehicle work and how they relate to each other.
- Technical skills: Ability to use diagnostic tools and interpret test results.
- Attention to detail: Identifying even minor defects or issues.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills: Determining the cause of problems and suggesting effective solutions.
- Communication skills: Explaining findings clearly to vehicle owners or other stakeholders.
- Ability to follow procedures: Adhering to established inspection guidelines and protocols.
- Physical stamina: Being able to stand, walk, and work in various environments.
- Valid driver's license: Necessary for operating and inspecting vehicles.
- Thorough understanding of vehicle systems, components and safety regulations are crucial.
- Attention to detail: Identifying defects, damages, and safety violations.
- Communication, clearly explaining inspection findings and recommendations.
- Problem-Solving, analysing issues and determining appropriate solutions.
- A clean Background check will be required.
4. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (What is required to perform the Essential Duties?
- **Age and License**:
years old and hold a valid driver’s license
- **Education**:
- Matric or equivalent is usually required. Some employers may require additional education, such as a certificate or associate’s degree in automotive technology.
- **Training and Certification**
- Many jurisdictions require completion of a vehicle inspection training program or passing a certification exam.
- **Experience**
- Experience in related field, such as automotive repair or quality control
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Parow, Western Cape: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (preferred)
