- Reporting to Engineering Manager- Direct Reportees: Front End Technicians and Too Room technicians- Job Objective:
- To oversee the implementation of maintenance programmes for Front End process equipment and ensure maintenance and tool room activities are carried our in an effective manner.- Internal Relationships: Quality Control and Assurance, Process improvement, maintenance planning, production, HSE, HR and Admin, Engineering Stores, Warehouse- External Relationships: Suppliers (foreign and domestic), contractors, original equipment manufacturers, suppliers, vendors, regulatory authorities.- Roles/Responsibilities:
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Supports the development and ensure the implementation of maintenance policy and procedures for Front End process equipment- Oversees the installation of Front End process equipment by equipment contractors.- Communicates with the production team on maintenance related issues.- Coordinates the troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance (preventative and corrective) for all equipment involved in the Front End production process e.g. body maker, cupper, trimmers, washers, bailer, etc- Implements front end maintenance programmes and ensures the proper and efficient maintenance and repair of front end process equipment- Report unscheduled breakdowns to Supervisor/Manager- Adhere to planned preventative maintenance program- Adhere to hygiene code of conduct and Integrated Management Systems policies- Obtains and reviews maintenance checklist/programme for Front End Process equipment form the maintenance planning unit, and ensures all items on the checklist are addressed- Contracts maintenance work that is beyond the scope/capability of the maintenance unit. This included defining the work scope, soliciting bids from vendors, vendor selection, and safe work execution.- Tooling Operations:
- Examines and inspects worn-out or defected tools, and determines course of action for reworking, fixing or replacing them- Supports the tools procurement process by recommending spare parts, and required/special tools that will ensure effective maintenance activities- Supervises equipment rework/grinding activities. This involves reworking production equipment parts and spares to return them to design capability- Reviews maintenance schedule and ensure the tool room is always adequately stocked to meet equipment maintenance requirements- Supervises the setting up and operation of machine tools, grinders, and other maintenance tools- Oversees the selection, grinding, and adjustment of tools, ensuring correct speeds and feed rates of tooling or efficient machining- Ensures that parts and tooling are in accordance with requirements, instructions, prints, and work orders. May be required to make drawings or sketches of parts to be made or repaired.- Interprets drawings, calculates, and determines indices, tapers, and other dimensions to be used for part(s)- Health, Safety and Environment:
- Ensures that all maintenance programs comply with all the applicable Health, Safety and Environmental regulations- Promotes safety culture in the team and ensures required training, PPE and Safety tools are provided by the HSE department, in order to ensure safe maintenance activities- People Management:
- Provides direction to Front End Maintenance and Tool Room team, and ensures the quality of work meets with performance expectations- Provides on-the-job coaching and mentoring to Front End Maintenance and Tool Room employees- Prioritises and assigns tasks to subordinates to ensure effective workflow.- Reviews/inspects work carried out by subordinates, and evaluates their performance-
**Inherent Requirements**
- Required Education:
- Minimum of a BTech in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. Trade tested Fitter, Turner, Toolmaker or Millwright, Engineering Diploma N6- Required Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years relevant work experience, 5 of which must be in a maintenance role within the manufacturing industry- Demonstrable experience in carrying out electrical and mechanical maintenance- Experience with basic machining function such as turning, threading, boring, grinding, cutting, sanding, etc.**What Qualification**
- BTech in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering. Trade tested Artisan
