Purpose of the role
This is a senior management level role reporting directly to the Chief Executive: Sanlam Connect and forms part of and serves on the SanlamConnect EXCO. This role:
- Maintains, supports and grows the BlueStar advice practices as well as the Managed Outsource business franchises through established teams.
- Has a strong and more challenging focus of undertaking business development initiatives and partnering collaborations that seek out and optimise opportunities across business models within the Sanlam Group of companies (particularly with Santam, Sanlam Health and Sanlam Corporate/Employee Benefits).
- Works both at a strategic level as well as a tactical one where they need to implement and execute design and development of new opportunities.
- Will work with different strategic business heads within SanlamConnect, Retail Affluent and across the Sanlam group to conceptualise, scope, initiate and then implement/scale up new business entities/concepts that are aligned to the SanlamConnect strategic drivers.
**Output/Core Tasks**:
- Serve as a member of the SanlamConnect Exco and give input and contribution into developing a vision and strategy for SRA.
- Lead the Enterprises Development business in alignment with the Sanlam Retail Affluent vision, strategy and business plan and in collaboration with the Outsource/Franchise models create a vision/strategy/business plan and value proposition for the year.
- Drive innovation and continuously investigate and explore other/alternative models, partnerships and approaches to ensure the competitiveness and profitability across all Enterprises models.
- Develop business cases that captures growth and develop & acquire distribution capacity including;
- Specific focus on forming collaborative bi-directional partnerships for unlocking value and business growth with Santam, Sanlam Heath, Sanlam Corporate/EB)
- JV’s and group businesses
- Capital partnerships
- Acquisitions
- Grow and sustain experienced intermediary partnerships with a variety of enterprise value propositions which provides unique business development, business succession coupled with appropriate support.
- Maximise/grow existing enterprise growth opportunities
- Identify and develop new enterprise growth opportunities /alternative distribution models/channels
- Ensure risk management and compliance within Enterprises Development (including Key Individual)
- Focus on building strong business relationships with Santam, Sanlam Health and Sanlam Corporate/EB specifically to explore opportunities to unlock value, revenue and growth for their product offerings within SanlamConnect What will make you successful in this role?
Qualification & experience
- 10 years + Financial Services experience, having operated at a strategic level within a Sales and Distribution environment with a deep understanding of alternative distribution models.
- Extensive proven business development experience (conceptualising and implementing new business opportunities, mergers, acquisitions and/or strategic business partnerships)
- People management and leadership experience.
- Post graduate Business, Legal, or Commercial Degree/MBA.
- Preferably CFP.

- Broad and significant Financial Services Industry knowledge/understanding
- Financial Services Product Knowledge (Sanlam and competitors)
- Distribution Strategy and Models/channels (including Alternative Distribution models)
- Sound financial/accounting management, concepts, calculations, analysis
- Corporate governance/Risk management
- Understanding of commercial law and setting up, operating, buying, taking over business entities
- Business development life cycle/mergers and acquisitions
- Legal agreements and contracts
- Business planning, strategy planning and execution
- Market and client segmentation knowledge
- Relevant regulatory legislation and compliance knowledge within Financial Services
