- The purpose of the position is to control, update, create and maintain establish controls to prevent or mitigate against the deliberate and intentional substitution, addition, tampering or misrepresentation of food ingredients, ingredient information, false or misleading statements made about an ingredient for economic gain or other motivations that could impact consumer health and from an ethical perspective. To implement such a framework based on the requirements of ISO22000:2018.**Key job functions**:
- Drive quality, GMP and Food safety aspects throughout the process daily to ensure continued adherence to all food safety and quality requirements.
- Effective leadership and control of the respective QA team to achieve accurate product analysis in WIP and Packing.
- Effective people management and control of the shift team to achieve disciplined execution of tasks (arrange training for new and existing staff, leave planning, discipline, reassignment of staff when necessary etc.).
- Effectively communicate with relevant production, engineering and cleaning personnel at start up, during processing, packing and CIP.
- Schedule and assist in providing required training, support and assessment of shift team members.
- Ensure product is produced according to the BOM as well as adherence to final product specification.
- Drive optimisation and improvement in the QA department
- Raise NCAs and take corrective action as necessary.
- Ensure ongoing line inspections with corrective actions implemented.
- Verify control in place per line and in WIP lab. Interpret information, report and sign off on decisions made or escalate to management as maybe necessary.
- Verify that all QA records are correct prior to submission to the Document Controller
- Conduct batch audits on a regular basis to ensure that recorded information for all raw material, bulk, and packed product is correct.
- Receive raw materials and packaging that maybe delivered late or on weekends
- Generate QC related job cards. Ensure that job cards are submitted to relevant maintenance staff as well as follow up on actions requested (Report major issues as required to senior management).
- Active participation in continuous improvement activities, including identification of and implementation of improvement initiatives.
- Work with the QA team to prepare and execute systems and food safety audits as well as resolution of findings.
- Control on-hold/rework product and recording of data thereof. Follow up on actions to be taken on such product.
- Work with Production managers and supervisors to maintain housekeeping standards. Processing floor and packing area always clean and tidy.
- Conduct internal food safety self-inspections and follow upon Gaps identified
- Adhere to GMP, Good Manufacturing Health and Safety policy and procedures as determined by the business from time to time.
- Ensure adherence to Health and Safety Standards by all direct reports and reporting incidences, accidents and unsafe acts to the Health and Safety officer.
- Analyse QC related data and report thereof.
- Work in place of direct reports or relieve when there are staff shortages and to perform relevant duties as maybe requested by management from time to time-
**Inherent Requirements**
- National Diploma or Degree in Food Technology, Biochemistry and Chemistry
- Minimum of 3 - 4 years’ experience in a similar role in Food Safety management
- Trained Internal Auditor (an advantage)
- Proficient in MS Office
- Understand the concept of doing risk assessment
- Have knowledge of materials used in the food manufacturing industry
- Understand the basics of threat and vulnerability
- Have knowledge of risks associated with hazards in food manufacturing
