Educare House is a warm and fun-loving preschool & aftercare situated around the corner from Kirstenhof Primary School (KPS) in Kirstenhof. We provide preschool for children aged 4 months - 6 years and Aftercare for children from KPS for Grades R-3. We are looking for a Head Teacher to join our team in January 2026.

The Head Teacher will teach a class in the mornings, and in the afternoons will take on administrative and educational responsibilities. This role includes supporting the Manager with the smooth and effective running of the school, and serving as the educational leader for the teaching team. The Manager remains ultimately responsible for the management of the school, staff, and operations.

**Key elements of the role**:
**Class teacher**:

- Responsible for the care, management and education of children in their class, ensuring the children feel loved, supported and happy, and are developing appropriately, reaching their full potential.
- Ensure educational activities are planned in line with the NCF curriculum, using the school’s planning system and incorporating the school’s ethos and themes.
- Communicate with parents of the children in the class, ensuring strong, positive relationships and bringing them along on their children’s educational journey, in line with the school’s communication guidelines.
- Have fun and play with the children during free play.

**Educational Leadership**:

- Drive educational excellence by guiding, mentoring, and supporting teachers in implementing best practices in early childhood education (note: this is a collaborative and advisory role, not a line-management role).
- Foster a love of learning in a play-based, fun, child-centered environment.
- Provide hands-on assistance in the classroom and on the playground, leading by example.

**Community and Parent Engagement**:

- Create and inspire a community around the school, including positive relationships with and between team members, children, and parents, as well as KPS and the wider community.
- Cultivate a warm, professional and fun-loving environment.
- Communicate effectively and positively with parents, keeping them informed and engaged in their children’s journey, and providing support as needed to other teachers.

- Is fun-loving and enjoys having fun and being silly, dancing and playing with children in their care.
- Is a team player, happy to chip in wherever needed.
- Has a positive, can-do attitude when faced with challenges.
- Strives for excellence, continually looking for ways to improve things around them and themselves as a teacher.

**Qualification and experience required (non-negotiable)**:

- ECD NQF Level 5 or B.Ed (Foundation Phase)
- 5+ years experience as a preschool class teacher (note: this experience is required as a class teacher, not as an assistant teacher)

Preferred but not required:

- 2 years in an administrative or leadership role at school or in a community environment
- Note: Due to the nature of our work with young children and our commitment to providing a healthy and professional learning environment, we are only considering non-smokers for this position._
