Committed to transformative change, UJ’s mission is “To transform and serve humanity through innovation and the collective and collaborative pursuit of knowledge.” The University is guided by the vision of building “An international university of choice, anchored in Africa and the global south, dynamically shaping a sustainable future". **Job description** **_ For more information, please review the following link: _**_Justice/Criminal/NRSO_** **Responsibilities**: - Contribute to the strategic development and growth of the Visual Art programme. - Provide academic leadership and foster a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive environment for students and colleagues. - Deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, engaging students in the theory, research and practice of art. - Undertake research and/or creative practice that advances the discipline and results in DHET-accredited outputs. - Build and maintain external networks and partnerships that enhance student engagement, experiential learning, and industry relevance. - Support effective curriculum delivery and administration, including course coordination, curriculum development, events, and academic processes. **Minimum requirements** **Minimum Requirements for Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer**: - A Doctorate in Visual Art or a cognate discipline. - At least five (5) to ten (10) years’ teaching experience in Visual Art. - Accredited research output (in local and international journals and books/ book chapters). - Proven leadership experience in an academic setting appropriate to the level of the appointment. - A strong record of teaching in a higher education environment. - A strong record of accredited research output, whether creative or textual. **Competencies and Behavioural Attributes**: - Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. - Proven leadership and organisational ability, underpinned by emotional intelligence, integrity, and professionalism. - Critical thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to work under pressure. - Demonstrated collegiality and capacity to work effectively with diverse stakeholders (staff, students, and community partners). - Proven ability in programme coordination and management. - Relevant digital literacy, including learning management systems. **Recommendations**: - An NRF rating or ability to achieve one would be a strong recommendation. - Global South research and engagement with academics or institutions in the Global South. **Enquiries**: **Enquiries regarding job content**:Mr. Gordon Froud (Head of Department) on Tel: (011) 559 1116 - **Enquiries regarding remuneration and benefits**:Mr. Nombulelo Ntsimane (HCM Business Partner) on Tel: (011) 559 3010
