Job Description
- To manage the daily operations of RMB Advisory Services (RMB Technical Accounting Advisory) function, and to support stakeholders in finance and the business by providing current, technical accounting knowledge in a specialist advisory capacity, which includes consulting on various technical accounting queries extending from the transactional through to reporting, which affect the Financial Reporting systems and packs and the annual financial statements of the Group
- Provide thought leadership and expertise to the Head of Advisory Service
- Build relationships that allow for the managing of expectations, the sharing of knowledge and diverse insights, and the creation of buy-in across the IFRS technical and finance community
- Build and sustain collaborative working relationships with relevant peers and stakeholders to achieve productivity synergies
- Manage and coach behaviours within the team that build rewarding relationships, encourage innovations, and allow others to provide exceptional customer service
- Manage the allocation of work between team members as well as the timely completion of the team’s output
- Creating, implementing, and maintaining IFRS technical accounting group policies by staying up to date with developments in both the local industry and IFRS through internal research and involvement on local topic teams and market interest
- Gather relevant information i.e., contracts, communications with business etc., to advise on appropriate accounting treatment in relation to the accounting transaction or query by undertaking accounting research and the preparation of technical accounting memos
- Identify interconnected problems, determine their impact, and use to develop best fit alternatives, driving best practice solutions
- Participate and lead in specialist communities of practice and represents the Group at industry level to share best practice insights and solutions
- Lead the liaison with auditors and independent advisors on accounting issues
- Prepare comment letters to the IASB and ISSB on a timely basis to enable industry to collaborate and drive accounting standards changes
- Prepare and review of submissions to the Group or Segment Audit Committee
- Review financial statements to ensure compliance with the relevant accounting standards, JSE Listing and Companies Act requirements
- Create cutting-edge financial reporting and the maintenance of the accounting issues log and ensure that there are appropriate documented conclusions around key accounting judgement areas
- Interpret, communicate, and advise on accounting standards and disclosures
- Engage in accounting research and the preparation of technical accounting memos
- Review technical accounting memos drafted by technical accounting advisory managers
- Review, and where necessary, participate in the Group's preparation of financial statements including footnote preparation, support for disclosures, research for presentations, etc.
- Lead, support, and perform functions in the Group's preparation for adoption and implementation of new accounting standards and updated guidance where applicable
- Review financial statements across the Group for IFRS compliance (key area of focus - RMB)
- Preparation and presentation of accounting updates and training on IFRS
- Contribute to the development of larger overall area budget, as well as manage expenditure planned and variances within the approved budget parameters
