**INTERNAL SHARIAH AUDITOR - HEAD OFFICE - DURBAN**

**CORE PURPOSE OF THE JOB**

To perform Shariah compliance audits in terms of the annual audit plan for the Internal Shariah Audit Department and prepare audit reports for review and approval by the Head of Internal Shariah Audit.

**MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB INCLUDE**:

- Assist the Head of the Internal Shariah Audit to review and examine on an annual basis the adequacy and effectiveness of the Bank’s Shariah compliance system, covering all aspects of the Bank’s business operations and activities to identify high risk Shariah areas for inclusion into the annual audit plan.
- Assists the Head of Internal Shariah Audit in preparing audit programmes for the various audits as per the annual plan.
- Prepare work papers in terms of the approved audit programmes.
- Obtaining background information about the activities to be audited.
- Obtaining SSB Fatawa, guidelines or directives relevant to the audit being conducted.
- Extract relevant samples as specified by the applicable audit programme.
- Follow and complete audit programmes/work papers to meet the audit objectives and document procedures performed.
- Evaluate/conclude on audit results and ensure that any identified deviations from the Shariah approved procedures are reported, based on audit evidence obtained.
- Follows up previous audit reports and report non-rectification of previously reported deficiencies.
- Escalate unresolved, continuously recurring issues to appropriate management.
- Submit completed audit working paper file to Head of Internal Shariah Audit within stipulated deadlines for review and/or guidance.
- Draft audit report based on audit findings, within predetermined timelines and submit to Head of Internal Shariah Audit for review and/or guidance.
- Clear all review notes raised by the Head of Internal Shariah Audit prior to issuing of report.
- Submit report, on authorization by Head of Internal Shariah Audit, to respective levels of management for discussion, comment and provision of missing documentation.
- Submit report with management comments to Head of Internal Shariah Audit for finalization.
- Maintain an outstanding issues audit log and follow up until resolved.
- Conducts onsite inspections and any Shariah related investigations as requested by management and report on such findings.
- Assist/perform any task as may be assigned by the Head of Internal Shariah Audit.

**Knowledge**:

- Auditing skills/techniques
- Basic understanding of Islamic Banking principles
- Knowledge of International Shariah Auditing Standards
- Proficiency in Computer programmes (Microsoft Office, Auditing Software and Databases)
- Understanding of banking policies and procedures

**Qualifications**:

- An advanced qualification in Shariah and/or relevant qualification in Auditing will be required in order to meet the requirements.

**Experience**:

- A minimum of 2-3 years of auditing and/or Islamic banking experience will be required for this position.
