**_Position Purpose:_**
The Group Chief Operating Officer (GCOO) reports directly to the Group Chief Executive, and forms part of the Group
Executive Committee.
The core purpose of the role is to execute the business strategy and drive operational efficiencies in all Transnet’s Operating
Divisions. The role is responsible for, inter alia, the following portfolios: Operations (all Operating Divisions),Technical
Oversight, Quality Management, Safety, Security, Capital Development and Assurance.
**_ Position outputs:_**
- Translate the Group strategy as derived from the Corporate Plan and Shareholder’s Compact into clear operational and
functional targets and ensure that the relevant objectives, measures and targets are accurately reflected and agreed to in the
- specific performance scorecards.
- Responsible for setting the overall direction and goals of the organization. This includes developing long-term strategies,
defining the company's vision, and ensuring alignment across all departments and subsidiaries.
- Develop and implement operational strategies that align with the overall goals and objectives of the organization. This
includes identifying areas for improvement, optimizing processes, and driving operational efficiency.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization, ensuring that all departments and functions are working together
smoothly. This includes managing resources, optimizing workflows, and implementing best practices to enhance productivity
- and quality.
- Create a positive and productive corporate culture, attracting and retaining top talent, and ensuring effective communication
and collaboration throughout the company.
- Accountable for the financial performance of the organization. This involves monitoring and analyzing financial data, making
informed decisions to improve profitability, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations.
- Act as the primary point of contact for key stakeholders, such as the board of directors, shareholders, investors, and
government officials.
- Identify and assess potential risks that may impact the organization's operations, reputation, or financial stability.
Development and implementation of strategies to mitigate these risks and ensure business continuity.
- Represent the organization to the public, media, and industry peers. This involves participating in industry events, speaking
engagements, and networking to enhance the company's reputation and promote its interests.
- Continuously evaluate the performance of the organization against set goals and objectives. This includes reviewing key
performance indicators, analyzing market trends, and making necessary adjustments to ensure the organization remains
- competitive and successful.
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators to assess the success of operational initiatives and make data-driven
decisions. This includes establishing performance metrics, conducting regular reviews, and implementing corrective actions
- when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, as well as ethical standards. This involves overseeing corporate
policies, procedures, and reporting mechanisms to promote transparency and accountability.
- Implement the new organisational structure and initiatives that will enable and support the Transnet turnaround strategy and
enhance central functions.
- Actively drive efficiency improvements and embed leading practices to ensure the achievement of corporate objectives,
measures and targets in all Transnet’s Operating Divisions and the central functions of Employee Wellbeing and Group
Security and Investigations.
- Lead the Operating Divisions with shared objectives where appropriate to drive collaboration and integration.
- To oversee and integrate the recommendations from the Transnet Advisory and Support Services function and ensure
implementation at the Operating Divisions.
