Electrical Draughtsman: Primary Plant

**Key Role**:
WSP South Africa is looking for an experienced Substation draughtsperson with solid experience on Distribution and Transmission primary plant layouts. Bentley MicroStation, AutoCAD and Revit experience is preferable. Must have an experience in creating and managing MicroStation master file.

Minimum of 5 years of experience as a draughtsperson, with a focus on substation primary plant design. Effective communication with engineers and other team members is essential. Ability to identify and resolve design issues. Ability to manage multiple drawings, projects, and deadlines. Accuracy is crucial in substation design, as errors can have significant consequences. Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks. Familiarity with Eskom's (or similar) design standards and best practices for substations.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Creating detailed drawings of the physical arrangement of substation equipment, including medium-voltage (MV), high-voltage (HV) and extra high-voltage (EHV) equipment, busbars, insulators, and other components.
- Managing high-quality design drawings.
- Developing and maintaining SLDs, which show the electrical connections and components of the substation in a simplified, symbolic way.
- Developing and maintaining electrical schematics, which show the functional relationships between components and how they operate.
- Creating drawings that show the overall layout of the substation, including dimensions and spatial relationships between different areas.
- Generating drawings that show vertical views of the substation, detailing the height and arrangement of equipment.
- Creating drawings that detail the primary plant equipment, foundation, trenches, drainage, steel structures, fencing, grounding and earthing systems, lighting, reticulation system etc.
- Create and modify detailed Substation drawings in MicroStation, AutoCAD, or Revit.
- Create MicroStation Seed file and Masterfile.
- Producing detailed 2D and 3D drawings
- Maintaining organized records of all substation drawings, ensuring proper version control and accessibility.
- Regularly updating drawings based on design changes, site modifications, and other relevant information.
- Ensuring that all drawings and documentation meet the required quality standards.
- Collaborating with electrical engineers and other team members to ensure that drawings accurately reflect the design requirements.
- Converting drawings into Bills of Quantities (BOQs), which are used for procurement and cost estimation.
- Visiting substation sites to gather information, verify dimensions, and assess the existing infrastructure.
- Identifying and resolving any discrepancies or issues that arise during the design or construction process.
- Providing guidance and support to junior drafters or other team members.
- Adhering to all safety regulations and procedures related to electrical work and site safety.

**Qualifications and Experience Required**:

- Draughting Design Certificate
- Formal proficiency in MicroStation, AutoCAD and Revit
- An Electrical Engineering Diploma will be an added advantage.
- 5-7 years of MV and HV Substation draughting experience.
- Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical components and architectural integration.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office

- Minimum 5 years of experience as a draughtsperson, with a focus on substation primary plant and secondary plant design.

- Good communication skills

- Must be able to work independently and accurately with mínimal supervision
