**GIS & Data Analyst**

**Purpose of the Role**:
The GIS & Data Analyst will provide technical expertise in geospatial analysis, data management, and spatial tool development to support the implementation of MRV systems and land-use monitoring under the ReLISA project. The role involves integrating spatial and non-spatial datasets, performing advanced mapping and modelling, and contributing to the development of decision-support tools for monitoring GHG emissions and ecosystem services in the land-use and forestry sectors.

**Key Responsibilities:A. Spatial Data Analysis & Environmental Mapping**
- Collect, compile, and manage spatial datasets from various sources, including satellite imagery, field GPS data, and national databases.
- Perform spatial analysis of land cover, land use change, and restoration potential across targeted regions.
- Generate high-quality thematic maps, geospatial visualizations, and data dashboards for reporting and decision-making.

**B. MRV Tool Development & Integration**
- Assist in designing spatial components of MRV systems, aligning with international standards (e.g., IPCC, REDD+, VCS).
- Support the integration of GHG activity data with spatial models for emissions estimation and ecosystem service tracking.
- Develop spatial templates and interfaces for decision-support tools, using open-source and proprietary GIS platforms.

**C. Data Management & Statistical Analysis**
- Clean, process, and analyze large datasets related to environmental indicators, land productivity, and carbon flux.
- Maintain metadata and ensure spatial data compliance with FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).

**D. Remote Sensing & Image Analysis**
- Process and analyze remote sensing imagery (e.g., Landsat, Sentinel) for land degradation, vegetation indices, biomass estimation, and change detection.
- Use classification algorithms to assess land use dynamics and intervention impacts over time.
- Validate remote sensing outputs with ground-truth data from field teams.

**E. Capacity Building & Technical Support**
- Train project staff, field teams, and consortium partners on GIS tools, data collection apps (e.g., KoboToolbox, QField), and spatial analysis.
- Prepare user guides and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for geospatial workflows.
- Provide ongoing technical support in spatial data interpretation and presentation.

**F. Reporting & Visualization**
- Produce geospatial components of technical reports, carbon accounting models, and ecosystem service assessments.
- Develop interactive visual tools (e.g., dashboards, story maps) to communicate project findings to stakeholders.
- Support the preparation of knowledge products, including policy briefs and presentations.

**Qualifications and Experience:Education**:

- Bachelor’s or Honours Degree in GIS, Environmental Informatics, Remote Sensing, Environmental Science, or related field. A Master’s degree is advantageous.

**Experience**:

- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in GIS analysis, spatial modelling, and environmental monitoring.
- Proven experience working with geospatial tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth Engine, ERDAS Imagine, or similar.
- Familiarity with geospatial approaches to GHG inventories, restoration monitoring, or land-use policy implementation.
- Previous involvement in multi-stakeholder projects, especially in climate, land restoration, or forestry contexts.
