**Your day at NTT DATA**
The Vice President, Systems Design/Architecture is a senior leadership role, responsible for providing strategic leadership and setting direction in the design and architecture of complex systems within the organization.
This senior leadership role oversees a team of managers and/or technical professionals in ensuring the successful delivery of scalable, reliable and secure architectures that meet business goals whilst fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture focused on operational excellence.
**Key responsibilities**:
- Oversees the definition and communication of the architecture vision and ensures the execution on the alignment of the architecture to business priorities.
- Oversees the representation of the organization in industry forums and conferences, showcasing expertise in system design and architecture.
- Works across multiple areas to oversee the design and architecture of large-scale, mission-critical systems.
- Sets direction for the alignment of systems to business goals, performance requirements, and industry best practices.
- Oversees the identification of design goals and creates system architecture plans.
- Works across multiple areas to ensure that architectural solutions meet technical and functional requirements.
- Oversees the management of the investigation and scoping of change requests to determine the scale of work to be done and estimate the timeframe and input required.
- Sets direction for the determination of system loads and volumes as input into infrastructure requirements.
- Sets direction for the design and development of new systems and solutions.
- Ensures that new systems and solutions conform to current system architecture and/or align to strategic system architectural direction.
- Sets direction for the identification of potential risks and challenges in the system design and architecture.
- Ensures system architecture is delivered in the form of robust and scalable solutions to business problems and needs.
- Sets direction for the specification of solutions functional and technical requirements, and implementation phases required in order to deliver on and solve complex business problems.
- Collaborate with executive management and other stakeholders to align system design and architecture with business objectives and long-term strategies.
- Collaborate with vendors and external partners to evaluate and integrate third-party technologies and solutions into the system architecture.
- Works across multiple areas, to define system requirements, resolve technical issues, and ensure successful project execution.
- Leads and manages the activities of a team of managers, architects and engineers, providing guidance, mentoring, and performance evaluations.
- Sets direction for a collaborative environment that promotes knowledge sharing and innovation.
**To thrive in this role, you need to have**:
- Excellent ability to think strategically and to align system design and architecture with business goals and objectives.
- Substantial knowledge of required programming languages.
- Substantial proficiency in various architectural patterns, cloud-based architectures, microservices, and integration technologies and frameworks.
- Substantial understanding of databases, networking, and infrastructure components.
- Excellent people management skills, including the ability to motivate and inspire team members, foster innovation, and get results.
- Problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify root causes, evaluate trade-offs, and make sound decisions.
- Substantial proficiency in designing and architecting complex systems.
- Excellent communication, presentation and documentation skills.
- Substantial knowledge of relevant standards and regulations, such as cybersecurity and data privacy.
- Substantial proficiency in project management methodologies and tools.
**Academic qualifications and certifications**:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field.
- Recommended certifications such as Cloud (Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Certified Solutions Architect); TOGAF preferred.
**Required experience**:
- Substantial demonstrated experience in leading and managing technical teams.
- Substantial demonstrated experience working in cross-functional teams and collaborating with various stakeholders.
- Substantial demonstrated experience in designing and architecting large-scale, distributed systems.
- Substantial demonstrated previous experience in a similar role within a large-scale organization.
