Fivewest OTC Desk is a dynamic and innovative force in the foreign exchange and crypto markets. The cornerstone of our trading operations is our over-the-counter (OTC) desk, which stands as one of the largest for crypto trading in South Africa.

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Graduate Trainee Trader with a keen interest in foreign exchange, commodities, and crypto markets to join our team as part of an internship.

About the Role

As a Graduate Trainee Trader at Fivewest, you will be an integral part of our trading desk, responsible for supporting the execution of trades in OTC foreign currency, crypto (spot) or derivative markets, or other financial instruments. This role is designed to build your market knowledge, analytic skills, and understanding of risk management to eventually contribute to the trading strategies and the overall profitability of the desk.

Key Responsibilities:

- Support the execution of trades in OTC derivatives, commodities, and other financial instruments under the guidance of senior traders.
- Assist in monitoring market conditions, analyzing market trends, economic indicators, and news events to identify potential trading opportunities.
- Learn to manage trading positions and risk exposure effectively, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal guidelines.
- Participate in the trade execution process, including assisting with trade confirmations, settlements, and reconciliations.
- Gain understanding and contribute to the implementation and enforcement of risk management strategies and controls to mitigate market, credit, and related risks.
- Help establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, supporting the primary point of contact for OTC trading inquiries and requirements.
- Assist in maintaining and fostering relationships with counterparties, brokers, and other external stakeholders.

**Requirements**:

- Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, mathematics, or a related field. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Basic understanding of OTC markets, derivative products, trading strategies, and risk management techniques is a plus.
- Proficiency in using trading platforms, risk management systems, and financial software is desirable.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced trading environment.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- A proactive attitude and a strong interest in financial markets, trading, and investment strategies.
