General Manager

**Job Description**:

The General Manager’s main responsibility is to be the face of the company and will be tasked with looking after and building the business from a mining perspective. The incumbent will be accountable for the analysis of risks and opportunities for improvement of technologies and methodologies for operations, to ensure improved planning processes for all core operations departments. The GM will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

**Responsibilities**:

- Lead, manage and control selected mining operations to ensure optimum production is achieved.
- Analyses production data and reports and investigates causes of delays and deviations and ensures mitigating plans are prepared and implemented
- Lead development and ongoing management of the mining annual plan and budget
- Lead and manage selected subsidiaries of the company to achieve its agreed profit, sales and cost KPI's.
- Setting up of clear objectives and goals for the mining team to achieve targeted production levels.
- Develop and nurture customer relationships along with the marketing teams to leverage increased sales.
- Drive intelligent cost control and reduction without impacting product quality.
- Optimize the use of working capital and generate a cash flow that meets the agreed targets
- Prepare and submit capex proposals with appropriate justifications as required.
- To direct and control all company activities in order to generate the required Return on Investment and to ensure the long-term sustainability of the company.
- Provides the vision, sets the direction of the company and inspires others to deliver on the organization mandate.
- Ensure that the company conforms to the Statutory and Regulatory factors which the work environment including Safety, Health and Environmental issues.
- Ensure a proactive response to market changes.
- Define the company’s strategic planning decisions and new business developments.
- Submits annual operating budgets and investment expenditure budgets to the CEO for approval.
- Plan, develop and implement strategy for operational management and development so as to meet agreed business performance plans within agreed budgets and timescales.
- Appraises the performance of immediate subordinates and effectively manage and resolve conflicts resulting from performance levels and maintain a reputable good service delivery.
- Report to board on organizational plans and performance
- Maintain and develop corporate image and reputation, protect and develop the company's brand
- Meeting with stakeholders at different levels to identify areas of innovation and growth
- Keeps abreast of internal and external factors that can impact the business
- Review current processes or systems and identifies ways to optimise them
- Identifies areas of risks and implements corrective actions to mitigate the impact of risks to ensure overall sustainability and has Operational Risk Management techniques and critical controls to leverage the risks
- Timely submissions of operational plans, forecasts and reports
- Manages pressure effectively and copes well with criticism and setbacks
- Works hard and shows energy and persistence to achieve high quality results.
- Leadership tools for creating a culture of purpose-led high performance and change
- Development and implementation of integrated solutions to maximise value for the entire mine-tomarket value chain to ensure productivity
- Leading and managing through crises and times of transformation and change
- Identification and rapid capitalisation on business and operational opportunities
- Management in and across different commodity spheres and geographical and socio-political environments.

**Requirements**:Qualification and Skill**_ _**
- BEng, BSc or BTech (Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or Chemical Engineering)
- Master’s degree in business administration preferable
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a senior management role within the Mining Sector
- Experience within the industry as well as previous GM experience of 4 years, with a demonstrated track record.
- Prioritise change management, project management, financial management, people development and ethical leadership
- Leadership educations is required
- A good working knowledge of base metals
- Regular travel and visits to operational environments
