Shift Manager

**PURPOSE OF FUNCTION**

To supervise and direct the activities of a relevant shift in the production cycle of the operation, through effective management of plant and equipment, materials, systems and people.

**JOB FUNCTIONS**

**Primary duties & responsibilities**

**OUTPUTS**

**Shift Operations**:

- Accountability for leadership in critical production areas during shift
- Boiler Room; Washline; Finishing’; Combing; Preparing; Waste Management
- Ensuring that production and quality standards, are maintained in each of the production sectors defined.
- Ensure adequate staffing for shift
- Ensure adequate raw material is available for required sift production
- Ensure plant and machinery is in full working order, and is available and functioning as required
- Limit costs caused through poor waste management or stock use
- Ensure production plant is clean and orderly and meets H&S standards at all times.
- Meet production targets per shift.
- Maintain discipline according to Code of Conduct.
- Proactively seeking out risks and reporting to appropriate resources
- Prioritizing of runs from wash line to finishers
- Ensure smooth transition from wash line to finishing department
- Check the daily setting of machines
- Taking necessary corrective action if required, carrying out physical checks as and when required
- Close liaison with Plant Manager
- Communicate on an ongoing basis, daily with Plant manager and regular meetings with shift Foremen
- Meet with shift foremen at beginning of each shift

**JOB FUNCTIONS**

**Primary duties &responsibilities (OUTPUTS)**

**INPUTS**
- Production Output and Efficiency
- Ensure Production targets as supplied by management are achieved
- Prioritizing of runs from wash line to finishers
- Ensure smooth transition from wash line to finishing department
- Check Daily setting of machines
- Taking necessary corrective action if required, carrying out physical checks as and when required
- Close liaison with Plant Manager
- Communicate on an ongoing basis, daily with Plant manager
- Regular meetings with shift Foremen
- Meet with shift foremen at beginning of each shift
- Ensure that necessary arrangements are made in event of staff

**Adherence to Health and Safety Regulations**
- Ensure correct protective workwear procedures are maintained
- To ensure machine doors and guards in designated places
- To ensure all departments are cleaned on regular basis

**Quality Standards/Control**
- ensure all machines deliver good sliver product and weight
- ensure bins are regularly cleaned to avoid contamination

**Cost Control**
- Ensure costs as per budgets are maintained

Stock/Inventory Control
- Ensure strict adherence of all stock within factory

**Logistics**
- Ensure that Logistic/warehouse staff maintain their area to spec.

**Call Outs**
- Ensure maintenance team/team member available for stand by

Maintenance of machinery
- Liaise with Maintenance division to ensure that all machinery in good working order
- Assist with future planning of machinery for budget purposes
- Place orders for parts & accessories when required
- Ensuring correct dosage and dosing pump are in good working order
- To assist in correct mixing of antistatic when necessary
- Report any non-conformances to the Plant Manager
- Report all non-conformances to the Plant Manager
- Maintain good housekeeping standards and safety procedures
- Ensure subordinates maintain standard of housekeeping in all areas of plant
- Ensure all relevant chemicals are stored correctly as per Safety requirements
- Ensure correct tools & Equipment are used for the correct testing procedures and safety clothing is worn at all times
- Adhere to Company policy and procedures
- Ensure all Human Resource Policies are adhered to (attendance, clocking, discipline etc)

**Report writing**
- Submit reports to Plant Manager/head office, as and when required

**Salary**: R1.00 per month
