Divisional Head: Macroeconomic and External

-The main purpose of this position is to provide strategic leadership to the Macroeconomic and External Vulnerabilities Division (MEV) in the Financial Stability Department. The main purpose of the MEV Division is to identify and monitor financial stability vulnerabilities that stem from the macroeconomic environment, to develop possible mitigating actions, and to communicate to stakeholders about the financial stability conjuncture. -Detailed Description Provide input into the departmental strategy and policy that are aligned to the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) strategy, and communicate and clarify the vision and strategic goals of the department to own team. - Develop strategy-aligned divisional operational plans, policies, procedures and systems for approval. - Oversee the identification, monitoring and analysis of structural and cyclical vulnerabilities to financial stability that emanate from the macroeconomic and external environment. - Lead and oversee the development of possible mitigating policies for consideration by the Financial Stability Committee. - Oversee the quality of contributions by team members to financial stability publications, presentations and responses to requests for information. - Build and maintain key stakeholder relationships to better understand vulnerabilities in the financial system, and promote awareness and debate about these for the development of appropriate mitigating policies. - Oversee and authorise the provision of management information. - Prioritise work, manage resource utilisation and the quality of deliverables, and control costs, ensuring alignment with related functions and the organisational value chain. - Create a performance culture in the division, define performance expectations and conduct effective performance management of direct reports. - Drive the development of employees and promote career management. Job Requirements a minimum of a Master’s degree in Banking, Economics or Finance, or an equivalent qualification; and - 10 to 12 years’ experience in an economics or financial environment, part of which should be in a senior management position. Additional requirements include: - macroeconomic and macrofinancial knowledge; - knowledge of research methodologies and processes; - effective communication skills; - planning and organising skills; - knowledge of macroprudential policies; - management skills; and - ability to conduct quality control.
