Duties/Pligte

Specific duties will include, but will not be limited to:
Assisting with academic guidance and management of the Operations Research group;-
- Providing supervision and leadership to postgraduate students;- Conducting research in Operations Research, with a focus on optimisation;- Actively pursuing and completing PhD studies.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes- A four-year B.Eng undergraduate qualification accredited by ECSA for registration as Professional Engineer;- The equivalent of a research master's degree in an optimisation-related area of Operations Research;- A strong academic record;- The academic potential to present modules in Operations Research within the Industrial Engineering undergraduate and postgraduate curricula;- Strong programming research or practical experience, specifically in C, Python or R, with experience in distributed computing and the use of specialised

commercial optimisation software at scale (such as, for example, CPLEX or Gurobi);Good verbal and written communication skills.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling- With reference to Operations Research disciplines, research and teaching experience in practical mathematical modelling and combinatorial optimisation;- Proof of completed supervision of undergraduate and/or postgraduate students in an optimisation-related area of Operations Research;- The successful completion of related projects in industry;- A strong commitment to becoming a scholar in Operations Research focusing on an optimisation-related area of the discipline;- Proficiency in Afrikaans, isiXhosa or another indigenous South African language.
