**Job Summary**:
The Assistant Catering Manager plays a vital role in supporting the catering operations of a retirement village located in the Somerset West area of the Western Cape. Working closely with the Catering Manager, this position ensures the delivery of high-quality dining services that meet the culinary preferences and dietary needs of residents while maintaining efficient and cost-effective operations. The Assistant Catering Manager assists in overseeing the kitchen staff, coordinating meal preparation, managing inventory, and fostering a positive dining experience for residents.

**Key Responsibilities**

**Assist Catering Manager**: Collaborate with the Catering Manager to plan, organize, and supervise all catering activities to meet the needs and expectations of residents and guests.

**Kitchen Supervision**: Support kitchen staff in daily operations, including food preparation, cooking, and presentation, ensuring adherence to health and safety standards and regulatory requirements.

**Menu Planning**: Assist in developing seasonal menus that offer a variety of nutritious and appealing meal options, taking into account dietary restrictions, preferences, and feedback from residents.

**Inventory Management**: Monitor inventory levels of food and supplies, place orders as needed, and ensure efficient stock rotation to minimize waste and maintain freshness.

**Staff Training and Development**: Assist in training and coaching kitchen staff on food preparation techniques, sanitation practices, and customer service standards to enhance overall performance and service quality.

**Quality Control**: Conduct regular inspections of food preparation areas, dining facilities, and equipment to uphold cleanliness, sanitation, and safety standards.

**Customer Relations**: Interact with residents to gather feedback, address concerns, and accommodate special requests, striving to exceed expectations and enhance resident satisfaction.

**Event Coordination**: Support the Catering Manager in planning and executing special events, functions, and themed meals, ensuring seamless coordination and exceptional service delivery.

**Budget Management**: Assist in managing catering budgets, monitoring expenses, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs while maintaining high standards of quality.

**Qualifications and Skills**:
Previous experience in a similar role within the hospitality or catering industry.

Culinary qualifications or relevant certifications are advantageous.

Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with residents, staff, and vendors.

Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in food handling and hygiene.

Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
