**Job Summary**:
The Junior Safety Officer is responsible for assisting in the implementation and enforcement of workplace health and safety policies, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and promoting a culture of safety among employees. The role involves conducting safety inspections, assisting in risk assessments, and ensuring that all safety documentation is up to date.

**Key Responsibilities**:
1. Safety Compliance & Inspections

Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with company safety policies and legal requirements.

Identify potential hazards and report them to the Safety Manager.

Ensure employees adhere to PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) requirements.

Assist in monitoring and enforcing safe work procedures on-site.

2. Risk Assessment & Incident Reporting

Assist in conducting risk assessments and identifying safety improvements.

Record and report workplace incidents, near misses, and injuries.

Support investigations of accidents and assist in implementing corrective actions.

3. Safety Documentation & Record-Keeping

Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records, checklists, and incident reports.

Ensure that safety files are completed and available on all project sites.

Assist in preparing safety reports and submitting them to the Safety Manager.

4. Safety Training & Awareness

Assist in conducting toolbox talks and safety inductions for new employees and contractors.

Support training sessions on workplace safety procedures.

Promote a culture of safety through communication and awareness campaigns.

5. Emergency Preparedness & Compliance

Assist in ensuring fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and emergency exits are in compliance.

Support emergency drills and evacuation procedures.

Ensure that all employees understand emergency protocols.

6. Equipment & Environment Monitoring

Assist in ensuring machinery and equipment comply with safety standards.

Report unsafe working conditions and recommend improvements.

Monitor the correct handling and storage of hazardous materials.

**Required Qualifications & Experience**:
Education: Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).

Experience: 1-2 years of experience in a safety-related role (construction, engineering, or manufacturing industry preferred).

Certifications: First Aid and Fire Fighting certificates (advantageous).

Knowledge: Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and related regulations.

**Key Skills & Competencies**:
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Good communication and reporting skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Knowledge of risk assessment and accident prevention techniques.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

**Working Conditions**:
On-site work required (various project locations).

Ability to work under pressure and in high-risk environments.

Occasional travel

Must have own transport

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent

Pay: R10 000,00 - R15 000,00 per month

Expected hours: 45 per week

Work Location: In person
