Excavator / Grab Operator Job Description

SA Steelworks is seeking a skilled Excavator / Grab Operator to join our team at Airport Industria in Cape Town. As a key member of our Meltshop Department, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our steel production process.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate excavators and other heavy equipment to handle materials and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Monitor and control the charging and melting of steel to ensure conformance to melting specifications.
  • Conduct daily inspections of equipment and report any malfunctions or safety concerns to management.
  • Collaborate with other team members to achieve daily targets and minimize downtime.
  • Develop and implement strategies to minimize waste generation and optimize material handling processes.
Requirements:
  • Matric (Maths compulsory)
  • Valid Excavator License
  • Minimum of 2 years working experience as an excavator operator in a similar environment.
  • Strong knowledge of mobile machinery and ability to detect machine discrepancies.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a demanding environment and willingness to work overtime and shifts.
  • Good communication skills and a strong commitment to Health & Safety rules and regulations.
