About this Role

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Senior Research Professor to join our faculty at Vaal University of Technology. This is an exceptional opportunity for a visionary leader to shape the research focus areas of our institution.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of strategic research initiatives, aligning with the university's vision and goals.
  • Mentor and guide postgraduate students, providing expertise in research methods and industry applications.
  • Coordinate the Postgraduate Induction Programme, ensuring seamless integration of new students into our academic community.
  • Design and deliver workshops on research supervision, fostering a culture of excellence in academia.
  • Identify and secure funding opportunities from core agencies, competitive grants, and formula-based funding sources.
  • Cultivate partnerships with industries, institutions, and international organizations to drive knowledge transfer and innovation.
  • Foster a culture of commercialization, facilitating the translation of research outputs into tangible benefits for society.
  • Supervise master's and doctoral students, nurturing their growth as future researchers and thought leaders.
  • Engage in local, national, and international research networks, promoting collaboration and mutual learning.
  • Train supervisors, extended research networks, and partnerships across departments, faculties, institutions, industries, and countries.
Qualification and Experience Requirements
  • An earned Doctoral degree in one of the Human Science Fields or a related field, with at least five years of research management experience.
  • A strong track record of research, including publications in accredited journals and conference papers.
  • Industrial or related experience, along with supervision of postgraduate students.
  • A high level of disciplinary expertise and statistical literacy.
  • Fulfill the VUT requirements for a full professorship.

This position offers a competitive salary of R 1,200,000 per annum, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The estimated annual cost of living in Gauteng is around R 500,000. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical aid, retirement annuity, and leave entitlements.
