Elchemie is seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Chemical and Regulatory Compliance Officer to join their regulatory team. This role focuses on managing the environmental, health, and safety aspects of products throughout their life cycle.

The successful candidate will ensure compliance with various chemical regulations, support product stewardship initiatives, and provide regulatory guidance to internal and external stakeholders. This is a full-time position based in the Cape Town region.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Classify new raw materials and assess compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Ensure adherence to specific regulatory requirements
  • Verify R&D threshold requirements and specific purposes for R&D activities
  • Conduct patent searches related to new raw materials
  • Manage the yearly submission of regulatory documentation and reporting to international authorities
  • Investigate and track other compliance requirements
  • Approve NPR samples for new and existing products, ensuring compliance with country-specific requirements
  • Oversee import/export regulations, including registrations and Certificates of Compliance
  • Maintain the regulatory matrix with regional listings
  • Promote sustainability and recycling initiatives
  • Ensure regulatory compliance notifications for internal and OEM clients
  • Publish a quarterly regulatory newsletter
  • Offer customer support and guidance on regulatory matters
  • Conduct testing to ensure compliance with relevant standards
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry
  • Experience in chemical regulatory compliance is an advantage
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing or chemical industry
  • Strong knowledge of local, national, and international chemical regulations
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in regulatory tracking and compliance software
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present complex information clearly
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Familiarity with industry-related certifications and testing standards is an advantage
