Job Title: Tutor for Neurodivergent Youth

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team at The Neurodiversity Centre as a Tutor for Neurodivergent Youth. This role requires a strong commitment to supporting the academic and personal growth of a 13-year-old neurodivergent boy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish a trusting relationship with the learner, fostering a sense of security and confidence.
  • Communicate effectively with the learner's school, maintaining a calendar of assignments, tests, and due dates.
  • Break down tasks and chunk information as needed, implementing movement and sensory breaks to promote learning and well-being.
  • Facilitate the learner's understanding and academic learning in various domains, providing support and scaffolding as required.
  • Support the learner's executive functioning, including planning, organization, problem-solving, and seeking help when needed.
  • Lessen uncertainties and anxiety by anticipating potential triggers and providing a supportive environment.
  • Create and design visual resources to aid learning, as needed.
  • Obtain necessary items for practical assignments.
  • Occasionally provide babysitting services.
Requirements:
  • A valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.
  • Fluency in Afrikaans and English.
  • Previous experience working with neurodivergent children, either as an au pair or tutor.
  • Familiarity with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
  • Strong verbal communication, interpersonal, and written skills.
  • Strong executive functioning, social, and life skills.
  • Relationship building skills.
Working Hours:

The successful candidate will be required to work the following hours:

  • Monday and Tuesday: 06:40-07:10 (negotiable) and 16:30-18:00.
  • Wednesday: 06:40-07:10 (negotiable) and 14:00-16:00.
  • Thursday: 06:40-07:10 (negotiable) and 16:30-18:00.
  • Friday: 06:40-07:10 (negotiable) and 13:30-14:30.
