Role Overview

The Digital Product Strategist plays a pivotal role in defining user stories and prioritizing the team backlog to streamline program execution while maintaining conceptual and technical integrity. This includes owning multiple products of varying complexities, collaborating with product management to execute the product vision, strategy, and roadmap.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leverage business stakeholders to create optimal user experiences and assess backend impact.
  • Facilitate workshops and lead requirements gathering processes, including wireframe creation and stakeholder input.
  • Ensure UI alignment with wireframes and feature requirements, guiding designers and participating in demo sessions.
  • Document user experience impacts on data models, business logic, and microservices in detail, including context diagrams and system flows.
  • Review integration and architecture specifications, providing input to ensure they address all requirements.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, guiding product development and coaching junior and senior product owners.
  • Contribute to refining the program backlog, ensuring the team understands features brought into PI planning and collaborating with program management.
  • Sequence user stories based on team objectives and balance local team requirements.

Qualifications and General Experience

  • Degree in Business, IT, Engineering, Marketing, or a relevant field – essential.
  • 6 years' experience in a Lead or Senior Product Owner role, with agile team experience and proven success launching new features – essential.
  • Extensive collaboration experience across multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex projects – essential.
  • In-depth understanding and experience with analytics and big data – essential.
  • Strong commercial experience in digital led business development environments – essential.
  • Extensive customer user and loyalty experience – essential.
  • Solid knowledge of legal compliance (POPIA, Electronic Information Act, etc.) – essential.
  • General marketing or retail experience – essential.
  • Ecommerce experience – essential.
  • Exposure to the African digital market and customers – desired.
