About the Position

We are seeking a skilled Afrikaans language interpreter to join our team of over-the-phone interpreters. The role requires proficiency in both Afrikaans and English, with a strong focus on accuracy and cultural sensitivity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Answer calls in a professional manner, adhering to the Interpreter's code of conduct.
  • Take notes during calls to ensure accurate communication.
  • Be aware of industry-specific vocabulary, particularly in the healthcare and medical sector.
  • Render messages accurately and completely, without adding, omitting, or substituting.
  • Provide exceptional customer service during interpreting sessions.
  • Facilitate communication between Limited English Proficient individuals and clients.
  • Participate in internal professional training and development opportunities.
  • Communicate and report to team leaders.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Fluency in English and native proficiency in Afrikaans.
  • At least one year of experience in over-the-phone interpretation, preferably in a well-established company.
  • Good knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Awareness of legal terminology is a plus.
  • International certifications in the healthcare industry are advantageous (e.g., PICSI, ALTA, HIPAA).
  • High school diploma in the native language.
  • High emotional intelligence and tolerance for diverse cultures.
  • Strong communication, listening, note-taking, and memory retention skills.
Technical Requirements
  • A dedicated, high-speed, private, and secured internet connection with a minimum download speed of 10 Mbps and upload speed of 5 Mbps.
  • A wired internet connection via Ethernet port, with Wi-Fi not permitted.
  • A minimum Windows 10 operating system.
  • A computer with a dual-core processor, 2 GHz or higher, such as an Intel Core i5 or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 8 GB RAM memory.
  • A single device (computer or laptop) capable of running required systems.
  • External monitors and connectors (if necessary).
  • A power adapter plugged in and not operating on battery.
