Educational Support Specialist for a Young Neurodivergent Child

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to support a 5-year-old autistic boy in his educational journey. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with young neurodivergent children and be able to provide a supportive and inclusive environment.

Main Purpose of the Job:
To provide personalized support and guidance to the learner, helping him to thrive in his educational setting. This will involve working closely with the learner, his teachers, and parents to understand his unique needs and develop strategies to support his learning.

Key Responsibilities:
• Build a trusting relationship with the learner
• Attend school with the learner to provide support and scaffolding
• Act as a communication bridge between the teacher, learner, and parents
• Assist with breaking down tasks and implementing movement/sensory breaks as needed
• Facilitate the learner's understanding of academic concepts in social, structured, and unstructured domains
• Support the development of executive functioning skills, including planning, organization, and problem-solving
• Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team to design and implement personalized learning plans

Requirements:
• Previous experience working with neurodivergent children
• Familiarity with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and low arousal, child-led, neuro-affirming approaches
• Strong verbal and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with children, teachers, and parents
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Strong tutoring and teaching skills, with a focus on inclusive and engaging practices
