Job Description:

The Senior Solar Engineer will play a key role in reducing client electrical consumption while increasing power production by transitioning clients to off-grid solutions and optimizing their energy usage. This involves designing, building, and implementing efficient electrical systems, as well as advising on applicable codes and regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Electrical System Design and Implementation: Design, build, and implement electrical systems, including wiring of panels and switchboards, low-voltage and 3.3KV reticulation systems, and photovoltaic (PV) array support systems.
  • Site Inspections and Load Analysis: Conduct site inspections, perform load analysis, and design suitable power systems, including array sizing, battery sizing, and reticulation.
  • Technical Skills: Be proficient in Excel, Microsoft Word, basic networking protocols, and industrial communication protocols.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Client engagement, solution design, project management, on-site implementation, off-site technical implementation, consulting services, ongoing client management, research and development, business and office management, lead origination, and prospecting.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of an Electrical Engineering Diploma or Degree, or any related qualification.
  • Experience in sizing, design, and project planning, including delivery experience and a willingness to learn about solar energy.
  • A high level of energy, resourcefulness, practicality, brightness, and a passion for working in challenging environments.
  • Hands-on experience, a willingness to get stuck-in, entrepreneurship, great communication skills, and the ability to manage senior clients and team members effectively.

  • Self-motivation, ability to work independently without vast support structures, and a broad thinking mindset.
  • Able to plan ahead, foresee potential problems, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Effective social interaction skills, including communication with foreign clients, professionals, artisans, and general laborers.
  • Willingness to spend up to two months per year away from home in remote locations, with stints ranging from two weeks to occasionally longer periods.
