Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the Civil Design team in the office and on project sites. They will work closely with the Chairman, executive directors, and project managers to direct, coordinate, and exercise functional authority for all aspects of civil projects within their area of assigned authority.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans, and conferring with management.
  2. Determine project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements, assigning personnel to phases and elements, and reviewing bids from contractors.
  3. Determine project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards, completing technical studies, and preparing cost estimates.
  4. Confirm product performance by designing and conducting tests.
  5. Determine project schedule by studying project plan and specifications, calculating time requirements, and sequencing project elements.
  6. Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and resolving problems.
  7. Controls project plan by reviewing design specifications and plan and schedule changes, recommending actions.
  8. Controls project costs by approving expenditures and administering contractor contracts.
  9. Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends, and recommending actions.
  10. Maintains a safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.
  11. Maintains product and company reputation by complying with international standards and state regulations.
  12. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a BEng (Civil) or equivalent degree, be professionally registered or registered with ECSA as PrEng and SAICE, and have good experience in bulk water and wastewater municipal infrastructure, storm water systems, earthworks, basic road, and drainage systems. They should also have experience in managing a team of junior and senior employees, and a minimum of 20 years in engineering design, management, and construction.

The ideal candidate will have effective communication, strong leadership and management, complex problem-solving, project management, and financial management skills, as well as the ability to pay attention to details.
