Job Overview

This role plays a crucial part in facilitating the transition of new students into the academic and social culture of Nelson Mandela University.

Key Responsibilities
  • To develop and implement an effective First Year Success Programme for new students across the University;
  • To design and deliver training programmes for First Year Success Leaders;
  • To recruit, interview, and select new and senior students from each programme in each Faculty as First Year Success Buddies;
  • To liaise with First Year Success Leaders and First Year students;
  • To manage and update information on the First Year Success digital platforms;
  • To perform administrative functions for the First Year Success programme, including finance administration, marketing and communication administration, and office administration.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A deep understanding of student access, retention, and throughput principles and best practices in First Year Success programmes and services;
  • An understanding of the developmental resource needs of students and staff;
  • Proven coordination and liaison skills;
  • Strong facilitation and written and verbal communication skills;
  • Proven information and digital competencies;
  • Attributes of transparency, integrity, and teamwork;
  • Administration and office management skills;
  • Good interpersonal skills.
Requirements for Appointment
  • M+3 or equivalent qualification in the field of social sciences, marketing, or public relations;
  • At least 2-3 years of relevant experience in which the above competences have been gained.
Estimated Salary Range

R450,000 - R550,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
