Job Title: Toolmaker - Press Experience

Vocation Staffing Solutions Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Toolmaker to join our team in the automotive industry.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a skilled Toolmaker with press experience to develop, maintain, repair, and improve tooling dies, jigs, fixtures, and fittings for press tools and CNC equipment. The successful candidate will work on various phases of projects, ensuring the robustness of product builds and supporting business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop prototypes, verify tests/trials, and manufacture tools to required specifications.
  • Solve problems and suggest solutions to machining.
  • Perform routine servicing, maintenance, and regrinding of tools inline with specs.
  • Repair and maintain press tools/die repairs within set standards.
  • Attend breakdowns, identify faults, and problem-solve at the press with minimal downtime to aid production.
  • Plan repair work, report on breakdown root causes, equipment faults, and concerns to management timeously and on a daily basis.
  • Identify and escalate any activity that has the potential to cause harm or damage to tools.
  • Operate forklift trucks and lifting equipment as required.
  • Support new tooling and ancillary spares to support production activity and customer deadlines.
  • Assist in tooling buyoffs and trials.
  • Ensure adherence to Quality Management system requirements.
  • Participate in carrying out FMEA/related activities.
  • Carry out and document engineering-level changes to tools and modifications.
  • Test tools (electrical and hydraulic/pneumatic operation) before returning to production.
  • Ensure compliance/adherence to all prescribed procedures.
  • Understand and operate within budget/cost measures for tooling.
  • Compile/update prescribed reports.
  • Actively participate in all assigned projects.
  • Active involvement in continuous improvement activities.
  • Active involvement in safety and environmental issues.
Requirements:
  • Lead and train/support technicians or trainees in own work group.
  • Qualified, Trade-tested, and experienced Toolmakers (new projects and tool maintenance, repair, and modification) is essential.
  • Min N3 (and matric).
  • In-depth knowledge of grinders, lathes, and milling machines, Tool, Jig, and Die Maker Trade.
  • Previous industry/product-related experience is preferential.
  • Valid forklift and crane licenses are highly advantageous.
  • Essential is the applicant's experience on tool development, fabrication, maintenance, understanding of manufacturing techniques, and 5S processes.
  • Experience in project management/project team participation – inclusive of working to tight production/project targets – is essential to this position.
  • Adherence to project timeline and ability to work independently.
  • Basic understanding of GD&T.
