We are seeking a Cost Estimator for our Johannesburg office who is self-motivated and dedicated to establishing Turner & Townsend as the leading consultancy in the industry. Reporting to the Lead Estimator, the successful candidate will be responsible for project delivery, client acquisition and retention, and promoting the core values of Turner & Townsend.

As a Cost Estimator, you will join our mining division to provide services that assist our clients in formulating strategies for successful business solutions prior to project sanctioning, ensuring confidence in project delivery, effectively managing and controlling projects, and facilitating knowledge capture and transfer.
Position Overview
We are in search of a Cost Estimator who will be tasked with producing estimates by developing, reviewing, and agreeing on the scope, basis, and methodology for any estimate undertaken. This role involves reviewing estimates according to the established methodology and ensuring the quality and accuracy of the estimates, including appropriate contingency levels and the preparation and maintenance of project historical data and trends.
Key Responsibilities
The position requires a comprehensive understanding and extensive knowledge of standard concepts in cost control and cost estimating, with a strong emphasis on data analysis and benchmarking, preferably within the mining sector. The ideal candidate is an analytical, data-driven problem solver capable of fostering consultative and collaborative partnerships necessary for defining and implementing project control procedures related to mining projects. Initiate the establishment of new projects during the earliest design phases (pre-conceptual or earlier) to ensure adherence to program controls. Collaborate with project teams to ensure that each project's change management and schedule management align with standardized work breakdown structures and estimating processes. Evaluate detailed construction estimates from contractors at various design maturity stages and provide informed recommendations. Assist in developing high-level conceptual rough order of magnitude (ROM) estimates prior to contractor engagement to support early property development planning efforts. Aid in the creation and maintenance of a library of templates, best practice standards, and procedures for all estimating activities for project teams. Maintain the program benchmarking database and all project coding structures. Support business unit leadership with ad-hoc cost performance studies, labor rate assessments, market analysis, and other estimating/project control-related functions as directed by business unit leadership. Demonstrate the ability to estimate at conceptual, programming, and detailed levels. Contribute to value engineering and options analysis.Qualifications
Required Qualifications & Experience
7-10 years of experience as a cost estimator in the mining, process, and infrastructure sectors. Bachelor's and/or postgraduate degree in engineering, construction, or a quantitative field. Familiarity with mining production and cost metrics. Knowledge of mining processes and operations. Proven estimating experience in large-scale and complex projects, including but not limited to civil, structural, and mechanical, electrical, and piping (MEP) works. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel. Experience with various cost estimating tools. Working knowledge of CCS is preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in relation to reports and presentations. A team player with demonstrated professional and interpersonal skills, capable of interfacing with all levels of the organization, clients, and vendors. Detail-oriented and action-driven with exceptional organizational skills and the ability to multitask. Capacity to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
