Maintenance and Repair Technician

The Maintenance and Repair Technician is a crucial role in ensuring the availability and reliability of equipment and machines. This position requires a high level of technical expertise and adherence to engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and repair equipment and machines to ensure their optimal performance and reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering technical standards and regulations.
  • Keep detailed records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs on checklists and job cards.
  • Identify and repair faults and defects independently, using sound technical knowledge and problem-solving skills.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety standards and regulations.
  • Meet all planning and productivity requirements, working effectively in a team environment.
  • Perform regular inspections and work according to Mine Standards, Procedures, and the Mine Health and Safety Act and regulations.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments to ensure safe and controlled work conditions.
  • Be prepared to work flexible hours, including shifts, overtime, and standby duties.
Requirements:
  • Internal Candidates:
    • Recognized Fitter or Fitter & Turner Trade Test Certificate.
    • Grade 12 with Math (not Literacy) and Science, with a minimum E symbol, and relevant two N2 Trade related subjects as per MQA guidelines, or N2 with four relevant trade related subjects as per MQA guidelines.
  • External Candidates:
    • Grade 12 with Math (not Literacy) and Science, with a minimum E symbol, and four N2 relevant trade related subjects as per MQA guidelines.
  • Sound knowledge of MHSA, safety systems, and a high regard for safety regulations and standards.
  • Proven excellent safety record.
  • Strong understanding of equipment, tools, and their uses.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in English.
  • Ability to cope effectively with pressure in a production environment, being innovative and a self-starter.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Ability to identify and repair faults and defects independently.
  • Valid K53 driver's license with own transport.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Certificate of Fitness.
Advantageous Qualifications:
  • At least 2 years of post-trade experience as a Fitter.
  • Experience with conveyor systems, pumps, crushing and screening equipment, compressors, and hydraulic systems.
