Safety and Environmental Specialist Job Overview

The South African National Blood Service is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to fill the role of a Safety and Environmental Specialist. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe working environment and promoting environmentally responsible practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Coordinate and implement safety protocols and procedures across all work areas, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
  2. Develop and maintain effective relationships with colleagues at all levels, providing support and guidance on safety matters.
  3. Facilitate emergency preparedness and response planning, working closely with the Team Lead: S&E.
  4. Support the implementation of the Emergency Response program, ensuring seamless execution in the zone of responsibility.
  5. Monitor and maintain fire equipment and ensure that work areas meet required safety standards.
  6. Conduct regular risk assessments, as per the 2-year cycle, to identify potential hazards and develop strategies for mitigation.
  7. Ensure that all work areas have adequate safety measures in place, including suitable equipment and adherence to the Safety Management system.
  8. Verify that the Transport Department complies with road traffic regulations.
