Job Title: Distribution Centre Manager: Inbound

Takealot.com, a leading South African e-commerce company, is seeking a highly skilled Distribution Centre Manager: Inbound to join our Supply Chain team in Johannesburg.

About the Role

We are looking for a seasoned professional to lead our Inbound operations, ensuring the efficient management of all warehousing functions, including stock handling, shipping, and dispatching. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing optimal processes and procedures to minimize costs and maximize working capital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate all Inbound operations, including warehousing, stock handling, and shipping.
  • Develop and implement efficient processes and procedures to minimize costs and maximize working capital.
  • Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly planning is done for all Inbound operations, including resource planning, departmental organizational design, relief planning, and seasonal planning.
  • Manage customer liaison processes and ensure that Inbound queries are resolved timeously and exception trends are addressed and resolved.
  • Optimize warehouse space, equipment, and warehouse flow to ensure efficient operations.
  • Ensure stock accuracy through disciplined stock control and implement stock accuracy improvement initiatives.
  • Measure and manage staff through formal staff appraisals, development, coaching, and disciplinary procedures.
  • Assert and drive accountability in all levels of staff.
  • Ensure that all business processes, procedures, and job profiles are documented, updated, and communicated to staff.
  • Manage projects according to stipulated time frames.
  • Liaise and negotiate with suppliers where required.
  • Conform to all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards and legislation as set out by the business and the OHS Act.
  • Drive continuous improvement measures within the department.
Requirements
  • Degree or Diploma in Supply Chain, Warehousing, Logistics, or similar.
  • 8-10 years' experience in Supply Chain Operations, Engineering, or Logistics required.
  • 5 years' experience in operational project management.
  • 5+ years' experience in directly managing people to deliver continuous improvement (Lean principles, 5S, multiskilling, cost-saving drives).
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing operational best practices in a distribution and warehousing environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • A structured and disciplined management style.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter with high energy levels.
  • Well-developed business and operational acumen.
  • Ability to work under pressure with strict deadlines.

Preferred Requirements
  • Fast-paced environment experience.
  • E-commerce experience (preferable).
  • Fine picking experience.
  • ERP systems knowledge.
  • Experience in working with budgets and cost analysis.
  • LEAN or continuous improvement experience.
  • Performance management skills – knowledge of Industrial Relations and practices.
  • Strong financial acumen.
