Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances.
  • Compound, manipulate, or prepare non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to approved formulas and standard operating procedures.
  • Manufacture non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to approved formulas and standard operating procedures.
  • Re-package medicines.
  • Distribute and control stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances.
  • Order medicines and scheduled substances up to Schedule 6 according to authorized personnel's instructions.
  • Read and prepare prescriptions, select, manipulate, or compound medicines; label and supply medicines in appropriate containers following prescription interpretation and evaluation by a pharmacist.
  • Accurately interpret scripts and act professionally within legal requirements as per SAPC regulations.
  • Capture script details accurately, verify patients' details on the system, and ensure accurate picking/packing/labelling and checking of medication.
  • Give accurate instructions to patients regarding correct medicine use.
  • Keep abreast of medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing.
  • Verify all medications for accuracy and have them signed by a pharmacist.
  • Advise and assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication, and front-shop.
  • Follow up with patients regarding script tracking reports as requested by the dispensary manager, and follow up on appointments.
  • Explain medical aid costs to patients.
  • Provide health information to individuals to promote health.
  • Process paperwork necessary for submitting claims to medical aids.
  • Correct errors on scripts rejected by medical aids.
  • Ensure authorization of chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication.
  • Maintain customer profiles on the system.
  • Merge profiles locally and notify UCS to merge profiles centrally.
  • Note any messages on customer profiles and take suitable action.
  • Report low/out-of-stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager.
  • Receive dispensary stock according to Dis-Chem SOPs and merchandise according to FEFO.
  • Facilitate bi-annual stock takes.
  • Exercise stock, cash, and asset control.
