Controller - South Africa Lead

We are seeking an experienced Controller - South Africa to lead our accounting team in South Africa. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial operations, including financial accounting and reporting, accounts payable, billing and collections, and treasury functions. They will also have experience working with 3rd party accounting firms and supervising monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes.
This role requires a creative and experienced leader who can develop and implement effective systems, accounting policies, and financial controls that maintain the integrity of all financial transactions and reporting of the Company. The successful candidate will also be responsible for ensuring timely development and delivery of cash projections for performance and planning purposes.
Responsibilities
The Controller - South Africa will be responsible for the following key areas:
- Leading the South African accounting team, including financial accounting and reporting, accounts payable, billing and collections, and treasury functions.
- Working with 3rd party accounting firms where a local team is not present to close the books and complete statutory requirements.
- Supervising monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes along with preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements in compliance with statutory requirements.
- Partnering with the US Corporate Controller/FP&A team to perform financial analysis to explain variances in financial performance compared to budget and forecast targets and prior year results.
- Developing and implementing effective systems, accounting policies, and financial controls which maintain the integrity of all financial transactions and reporting of the Company.
- Ensuring timely development and delivery of cash projections for performance and planning purposes.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should possess the following skills, experience, and qualifications:
- Minimum of 5-10+ years of experience managing the monthly close and financial reporting process, working with finance operations (AR/AP), cash management, budgeting, tax, and leading teams.
- Advanced Degree in Accounting, CPA/ACCA required, MBA is a plus.
- Audit experience within a public accounting firm plus career progression of accounting positions within a company with increasing leadership responsibilities is strongly desired.
- Advanced Microsoft Office Excel skills.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent analytical, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking skills; always evaluating to make processes better.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- A highly collaborative and customer service-oriented spirit; able to build strong relationships.
- Eligibility to work in South Africa.
